Description:I caught this large mouth bass on a small lake behind my sister in laws house in St Charles, Mo. My brother in law handed me one of his Winston rods, gave me a basic lesson on casting handed me a box of poppers and the said have fun.... After beating myself up a bit I got the hang of the casting and was at least getting the popper on the water.... I was standing near a small willow tree on the lakes edge. I would cast out about 10 feet or so and then let the popper slowly float back into the shore and under the overhanging limbs of the tree. After about twenty minutes or so of casting and retrieving, plus replacing broken poppers several times I watched in awe as this ripple of water came directly at my lure. I waited, slowly taking up any slack line, and watched as the ripple got closer. As I watched I saw my lure disappear and then a strong tug on my line. I resisted the urge to yank hard and instead lifted the rods tip up smoothly and firmly. I felt that electric sensation run up the line and down into my hands telling me I had a fish hooked. After a short fight I brought this fish to hand... hand the picture taken, and then safely released it back into the water. That is the very first fish I caught on a fly rod and it will always be my best fish.....

Retired Navy living in San Diego area. Had been fishing off and on for several years until my brother in law put a fly rod in my hand and gave me a basic lesson and then said have fun. Caught a decent sized LMB the first day and a good sized bluegill the second. Have been hooked ever since.
