Oahu Hawaii charters?
Anyone fished out of Oahu or have any recommendations? Looks like. 'Go fishing hawaii' has great reviews. Problem is I am the only 1 going so I'm looking for someone to split a charter with. We are going from Sep 28th - oct 3rd.

A couple things to know about Hawaii sport fishing. 1) They don't have a commercial fishery. What this means is the guides make their money on the fish you catch (which they can keep and sale )This means they are motivated to get you on fish and keep you on fish, and make sure you are well taken care of. That is why it is relatively inexpensive compared to other places. They want fisherman in the boat , and they want you catching fish. They don't just take you on a boat ride , if you don't catch fish they are losing money.
2 ) The above mentioned motivates all Oahu guides to give you a good experience
3) The boats out of waianai are good because that part of the island is where the currents favor most of the desired sportfish. So your travel time on the boat is reduced greatly. Less travel time to the fishing than say a boat out of Honolulu harbor
4) If they are still doing it , there is a boat out of haliewa that does night time shark fishing, I highly recommend that trip
Have fun and post a report

Thanks for the info. Shark fishing sounds like a riot. The only 2 charters we talked with is a fee comparable to what we just paid in Alaska. 20% gratituity appreciated but havent seen anything with no fish = no charge. That would be nice.

I haven't been there for 10 years , But I used to project manage construction for starbucks and was there 2 to 3 times a year. I went when ever I could . Back then You could call the boat captains and get on a list and they would put you on with 4 or 5 other guys who were looking to share costs also. (most of the charters handle 4-6 fisherman)
It used to run me $150-200 a half day. I don't know if things has changed since then though. The fees just cover their bare bones expences, Any profits would come from selling of harvested fish.
