FLASY FISH LURES fishing

Strawberry Slush City
I fished Strawberry today with a fellow BFTer and his son. We got there about 8:00 AM (I usually get there around 6:30 AM) and we were fortunate to find a place to park at The Strawberry Marina. Headed for one of my honey holes and getting there was a task of major proportions. There was about 6 inches of slush (more some places) with about a foot of snow on top of the slush. I managed to fall down in some deep slush about 30' from where we were headed to fish. I spent the day with one boot full of water and the other boot damp.

Catching was OK, but maybe every 20 or 30 fish would bite (if that good). We saw fish hugging the bottom almost non-stop until we left about 4:00 PM. Fun day with good company. Just wish I could have spent it with dry feet.

Kent, were you able to walk on top of the snow or did you wade thru the snow and the slush together? I ask because we are considering bringing a group of young men (scouts) up on Saturday. It could crust over and be frozen by next Saturday depending on the temps this coming week. What was the temps today? What kind of problems do you think a snowmobile will have if any? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get an idea if Strawberry should be a consideration for our annual fishing trip with the young men.

For short distances, we were able to walk on top of the snow. For the most part we were sloshing through the slush. The most difficult part was dragging our sleds through the slush.

Temps today was 3 degrees when we got there and it warmed up to about 25 degrees or so.

Snowmobiles seemed to be getting around fine. I would imagine that if one had an older one that didn't have a deep tread that would be a problem. Forget even considering a 4X4.

I'm planning on being back up there on Thursday and possibly also on Saturday.

PS - I foolishly didn't take the time to put on my snowshoes before heading out. I wore them on the way in and that helped a lot. Also, because it was a little warmer when we came in the snow and slush wasn't freezing to the sled, which also helped.

Thanks Kent... with those temps, likely things will be hard enough to go anywhere on the lake. I am considering transporting them across the lake South towards Renegade or going over to Soldier Creek. Often the fishing at S.C. is good and that is where the Rainbow seem to hang out.
