Thanks to those who responded and provided mailing addresses. Those selected will recieve their hooks in a week or two.

We have designed a fish hook appendage which halves the catch of under sized fish and prevents fish from swallowing the hook.

Under sized fish can be released unharmed.

The hooks have been extensively tested in New Zealand on snapper and we are looking for TWENTY conservation minded sea anglers to test them on other species in the Northern Hemisphere.

The hooks will be free and we will pay postage but expect some feedback on how they worked. The feedback can be posted on this forum or sent to us.

I fish the saltwater float tubing the costal areas for halibut and use live smelt for bait. I use circle hooks and think your hooks might work just as well. The season for bigtime near-shore fishing for halibut is about to begin so if I'm chosen you'll want to get going asap.

I would love to test these hooks. I live in North Carolina on the east coast. In a little town called Windsor. I fish at least 20 days a month. With in 5 miles of home I have access to the Cashie River which runs about 25 miles to the sound, then it makes a Y shape to the left you can go all the way to Virginia. To the right you can go all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way I have access to swamps, creeks, and rivers. So with fresh and salt water I have a wide array of fish to choose from so I think I could put your products to the test in all types of water and all kinds of fish. Right now we are in full swing of a Stripped Bass spawn up the river. We used circle hooks but still a lot are gut hooked because we used cut bait on the bottom. I think this would stop them from being gut hooked. I would be glad to post how they where and the fish I got on them.

I am "catchnrelease" at bigfishtackle.com and one of my biggest frustrations is having a fish swallow the hook. I'm very eager to try your hooks and provide feedback on how well they work. I live on Siltcoos Lake on the Central Oregon Coast - 3500 acres of beautiful freshwater.

I really don't know if they will work as well in fresh water as they do when using fish fillet ,or pilchard baits, in salt water as we do in New Zealand.

If you use real bait I think they probably would.

Do you use fillets or whole small fish for bait or do you use artificial baits like lures, spinners and soft rubber baits.

Thanks for getting back to me. The only saltwater fishing I do is for salmon, striped bass and halibut. They would probably work good for striped bass and halibut but it will be late summer before I fish for either of these if at all this year. I fish for catfish every weekend and when I dead line they have been swallowing the hooks and I have to cut my line or tear there mouth up getting my hooks back out so I would love to give this a try

Thanks for all the responses, those selected for this trial should recieve their hooks soon in the mail. We sent them out last Friday.

We got less saltwater anglers than we had hoped for and sent about half to freshwater fishers. Sorry to the few who missed out but the kinds of fishing they were doing was vastly different than what we were looking for.

Hey Id just like to say that i got my hooks the other day and they worked great! I went out on my boat today and I caught some groupers in the 20"-36" range and I lost none of the hooks, and none of the fish were gut hooked! would deffinitly recomed these hooks to anyone!

I got mine yesterday,

after examining them I have desided that I am going to keep one and send the other two to florida for my dad to test on cobia grouper snaper and sheephead.

I am going to try it on a veriety of different fresh water fish. like a carp, sturgen, drum (white fish/sheephead) and suckers.

the fish I would not try them on is larg mouth bass, pike, trout, salmon, and catfish because of the size and shape of their mouths. I dont think the stop bar will stop them from getting the whole hook down in their mouth, but also I think that if they close their mouths on it they will spit it out.

how ever if you made a smaller one I think it would be ideal for them hook swollowing perch, gills and other pan fish. I know for a fact that they would never be able to get their mouths past the stop bar. the sizes that I would like to see would be a number #6 or a number #8 size hooks.

my dad was telling me about them sheep head on the golf having teeth like a sheep, I am sure that this design may be a good one for this application.

1st test , foote dam pond spillage , conditions fast shallow water , none of the targeted species of fish present at time of this test , ( spawning run "pushed back " due to weather conditions ) i did notice however that there were significantly less bottom snags and foul hooking of debris on the bottom of the river .

2nd. test , lower AU SABLE RIVER MOUTH INTO THE LAKE HURON . CONDITIONS FAST WATER EMPTING INTO LAKE HURON ( ONE OF THE GREAT LAKES ). TEMPS WERE IN THE LOWER 50'S AND A STRONG N.-N.E. WIND 10-25 M.P.H. , WINDS PRODUCING FREESING TEMPS AND WHITECAPS . FISHING WAS DEEMED AS "SLOW".

I WAS ABLE TO CATCH AND RELEASE 1 BROWNTROUT , APROX 6 TO 8 LBS. ON A LARGE MINNOY HOOKED THRU THE HEAD . THE "PRONG" ACTED AS A LEVER PIVOTING THE BARB INTO THE LOWER JAW . THE HOOK WAS SET SOLID BUT THE PRONG DID INFLICT SOME SKIN DAMAGE TO THE UPPER LIP OF THE FISH , BUT NOTHING SEVERE .

ONE STEELHEAD WAS HOOKED BUT CAME OFF DURING THE LANDING OF THE FISH , AS SOON AS A LITTLE LINE SLACK WAS GIVEN DURING THE NETTING PROCESS THE FISH JUST RELEASED THE HOOK AND SWAM OFF , TOO MANY VARIEABLES FOR A CONCLUSIVE OUTCOME ON THAT ONE . SORRY .

I DID HAVE SEVERAL OTHER HITS BUT NOTHING HOOKED , UPON INSPECTION OF THE REMAINING BAITS AFTER EACH HIT IT WAS MY CONCLUSION THAT THEY WERE WORKING AS FAR AS ONLY PORTIONS OF THE BAIT FISH REMAINED . THE SMALLER FISH WAS NOT ABLE TO INGULF THE FULL HOOK WITH THE BARB ATTACHMENT .

THIS WILL BE ONE SET OF MANY TEST TO COME , WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED AS TO THE PROGRESS OF EACH TEST .
