More Ice Fishing Toys
Well, in my quest to protect my ice rods when flying across the Berry at a gazilion miles an hour to keep from getting gobbled up by the slush monster, I went looking for a case for my ice rods. At Sportsman’s I ran across these cool arrow cases. They looked perfect but as it turns out, they are about ½ inch too thin. I still really like them even though I have to flip a bail back or remove a reel to get everything to fit.

This year has been my year for building ice fishing fish finders. Of the five I have built over the years, I built three of them this year. Here is a look at the last two.

The one that I call mine is the LCX 522c with internal GPS. I have no use for GPS in a ice fishing finder but it goes onto my boat in the summer and then the GPS is great.

The LCX 510c is the same as the 522 but without GPS. I built it for Bait_Caster. Since he already has a top-of-the-line Lowrance on the boat he uses, we decided we could save a few bucks and build his ice finder without the GPS.

Opened up, they contain, the head, transducer and Vexlar float, two batteries, RAM mounts, power cable, and plenty of padding for everything:

Packed up and ready for transport:

Bait_Caster and I are headed for the Berry in a couple of hours (2:00 AM) and will be giving the 510c it's madin voage.

Great units, I been looking into the parts to set one up with a 67c that I replaced another unit but have a hard time finding some of the parts, where do you get the transducers.

I have gotten all of my electronics (including ice transducers) from these folks:

If necessary, give them a call. They are a pleasure to work with, and their prices are among the best on the Internet.

You seem to have this ice fishing sonar set up down to a science.

I'm upgrading the electronics on my boat this year and I will have an extra Lowrance X85, transducer and ram mount.

What would you charge a chump like me to set it up for the ice ? (with the box, pvc transducer holder, batteries, etc...)

4boats,

I got the bell shaped ice fishing transducers from Fish-Lectronics. I also got the power cable from them. Since you only need a 2-wire power cable (+12, ground) for an ice fishing unit, there is no need to pay for the LONG thick multi wired power/data cables that normaly come with the Lowrance units. Fish-Lectronics set me up with a much shorter 2-wire power cable that works much better. And, they swap parts from the new units and charge only for the lesser part. They went the extra mile (several times) to help me. Their service is fantastic and prices the best I found anywhere!

Danny,

No charge at all. I'd be glad to help you do it or do it for you. Of course, you would have to supply the parts.

If you would like, send me a PM and we can talk more.

That great, thanks for the information.. I'll start gathering parts and maybe we could get together and discuss the fine points of assembly.

Thank again,
