Rockport conditions
Anyone have an update on ice conditions at Rockport? Thinking I may have to go there this weekend, the season is winding down and I need a few more trips.

ThanksFishin'

ice is solid a 20 in. no soft spots on the edges either as of sunday. no slush maybe a half inch of crust on top. power auger is advised

Agree with Jazz - We have seen hand auger's used. One guy punched 9 holes by hand to catch one planter in 4 hours. Fishing is generally slow. Pick your day based on weather and it will be enjoyable.

definatly gotta be somewhat lucky if you want to call it that. i did really good there from like new years day to jan 20th. i couldnt keep the trout off and i was going home with like 12 nice perch a trip, but now i couldnt get a trout to bitee my rig if my life was depending on it. still getting a few perch here and there but nothing to get excited about. the trout fishing in that lake every year tapers off around the end of feb and almost become nonexistent, in my experiences anyway. still one of my favorite lakes though.

I guess it depend on where you fish because last year in March was my best trip to the Rock ever. Here is a link to that thread: http://www.bigfishtackle.com/...ing=rockport;#649728

Scram and I hit the rock on saturday, we had 4 flashers in the water and 5 poles, iced 5 and lost one at the hole, 300 to 400 yards straight out from the boat launch, one was at 10' the other 5 were at 20', ice was a good 18", and edges were about 2' of open water when getting off at 4:00, on the ice by 8:30, with this cold weather im sure the edges will be solid all day.

hope this helps.

hmmm maybe im doing something wrong, i dont use a flasher or finder so maybe that would help. i hope i can get into them like that here in the next few weeks. cause when rockport was real good about 4 or 5 years ago i would hammer the perch on the late season ice. i guess ill have to go lookin cause it can be done. nice fish wiper hunter2.

the rock is solid, 18-20'' of ice we went wed caught 7 missed a bunch the big fish of the day came out of one hole only to come off and back down another...the big one always gets away. we were 1000 feet out from the ramp in 50 feet of water, fish were at 10 to 15' using white paddle bug w/pink crappie nuggets under kast masters anything shinny. it was great until parley's was closed on the way home...headed back on monday i think
