Fishing

We, my Aunt and Uncle and I, took the boat to EC on Sunday. Tried out new Hummingbird. We trolled on leaded line out 50 feet RMK Dodgers in green or green and pink, followed by a green wolly worm tipped with a bit of worm. Work real well as long as we were in the fish. The area we worked was the south arm near the inlet in 15 to 35 feet of water. I accidently caught the brown when reeling in to clear the way for the trollers bringing another fish. It took a silver and chartruese Kastmaster at maximum reel speed, what a hoot. Barely outer lip hooked, came off in the net. Very lucky me. But as usual, I am better at luck than skill.

It was a good day, didn't have to touch the tools to fix the boat even once. Do need to adjust position of transducer.

Water temp 60 to 61. No Smallies, talked to several, and only one guy had managed a few small smallies that were rather smallish he said. I'm guessing the small cold freont and the cool weather Sunday may have something to do with it.

The trout had a midge pupas in their stomach as well as the brown, and one rainbow had a crawdad, orangeish in its stomach.

cool on the brown man ive never caught a brown there except right where the creek comes in but that was like 5 years ago, but ya the smallies are defiantly affected by the cold cuase the air temp at night the last 2 nights there was lik 35 to 37 degrees at the low. the bass dont like it. as soon as it warms again youll be able to catch tons of smallies, the week before i caught 20 smallie with the biggest being 17 inches and the average was about 14

What boat were you in?? I was fishing in red and black bass boat down on that end for a while. Wonder if I saw ya! Good job on the fish. We got quite a few smallies. Here is a pic of the best one.

No Crappie. I was hoping to sight fish some but the breeze made it tough to see. I love that lake for smallies. Here is my biggest smallie to date out of east canyon. This was a few years ago in a tournament. This gal put some money in my pocket. She was 5.1 lbs.

nice i caught my biggest about the same weight at 19 1/2 inches on a bobber and worm. they are so fun and i think the reason there arent as many big smallies is that when people catch them offshore by accident fishing for trout they get excited and string up a 5 pounder on a stringer, its like cmon let the big one go to be caught again by someone else and keep the small ones to eat so there will be a larger sized population, but they arent protected by the regs cause east canyon is a trout lake, even though i catch more crappie and bass out of there than anything. plus big smallies meat gets mushy when they reach about the 4 pound weight and small SMB that are like 12 inches taste like perch yummmm. but i can probly count 10 times where ive seen huge bass caught and not released, i understand you can do it but i personally dont get it. i only have a few different species of fish i eat. perch, crappie, smallies, and walleye. youll never catch me eating trout!!!!!!
