Fishing

Hit Willard for the first time this year. I was hoping to catch something, since I hate to admit it, but I have not been fishing in about a month. Took my brother and launched shortly after 7. First couple hours were a bust, and I was beginning to think I should have just went to Starvation like I originally planned. Then, I managed a decent eye about 16-17". A little while went by and I got another. Another dry spell, then I hooked into a drag peeling machine on a crankbait.... Wiper for sure right, after a pretty long fight on 6 lb. test, I land a big ol' carp. Dang. Anyways, I finished up stong with a few smallies and completed my limit of eyes before noon. Strange enough, my brother in the same boat as me using almost the same lure... one possible bite, and no fish at all. Crazy.
All in all, it was nice to be back to Willard, except for the annoying little bugs.

Nice going. Sounds like you tamed that mean mistress. Hope the wind wasn't too bad, but maybe it'd help with the bugs! Sure lots of carp slurping up those bugs off the surface.
They may not be as purdy as a Wiper, but they sure can peel some line!

I hit up willard for the first time last week and the first time going after walleye in 15 years. My friend is an experience willard eye-hunter and he got twice as many bites. I had troubles getting it on the bottom proper and feeling the the subtle hits. I spent way too much time out of the correct depth zone. I did catch one eye and one whisker biscuit, but must of of missed a dozen hits and missed the opportunity screwing with the depth while my friend was getting hits. Get him out more and he will start to get it. Wait till he lands that wiper and he will be begging you to take him again. I saw my friend land a wiper and I had to go out and get a boat of my own =). Can't wait to get my first "drag-peeling machine" (I like that).

Isn't the statewide limit on walleye 10? With one over 26"? That looks like about 3/4 of a limit....??Just asking?

Doesn't anybody read the regs? (sorry, punning on recent posts...) I think the Walleye limit is 6, but some waters have further restrictions. Willard has a limit on only one over 24" (is it 24, or 22? I'd better re-read!). Then there's also seasonal restrictions on not fishing inlets/breeding grounds during early spawn season.

You are right on the statewide limit being 10 walleye, with one over 24". Willard (as well as Utah Lake) have regulations of a limit of 6, with one over 24.

No limit on the eyes in lake Powell.


THE 2ND AMENDMENT IS IN PLACE IN CASE THE POLITICIANS IGNORE THE OTHERS.

All day, everyday... people in this world are crazy. And don't think the thought didn't cross my mind. It amazes me that I am maybe 30' from the dike, on the huge open lake with no one in the middle, and they some by within probably 40-50 yards. This is not exactly enjoyable to take a wake from a ski boat sideways to my little 14' aluminum. Oh well, such is life.

That is one tasty stringer you got there! Great work at Willard dude.

You are killing me even more with the no limit comment on Lake Powell. That has been my motivation to try to get down there. I have wanted to fish it for a while now, but haven't made it down. I love to chase eyes, and heard it can be very good down there (and a striper woudn't hurt my feelings either). I thought I had the trip going earlier this spring, but a very windy forecast kept me home.
