I'll try one out. What is your suggestion for fishing this rig? It almost looks like it would be good for trolling too. It might be good to add a squid strip to the hook.

Gregg sent me a tube lure to try out as well.

That thing would work for Halibut on the West coast. I'll be glad to sample some for you. We have a Halibut Derby coming up in April. A brand new truck to the person that pull out one over 55lb.Shocked

I think 30lb would be the maximum that I would need. The Halibut barely get to 60lbs maximum, divide that by preset drag and float tube and you get a whole lot of fun.

The Halibut really have no structure to break you off with since they are mostly in the sandy bottoms.Cool

A 55lb halibut on a float tube ? I suspect you won't need to worry about any preset drag if you're on your tube when one of those hits.

You are looking for some serious fun ... aren't you ?

Post up photos when you get it and be sure to describe the experience too.

Well, if you don't get enough flounder/fluke anglers to test those out, I'll be glad to try one out on a few other species that I'll be fishing for - I can be your official "weird-case-scenario" product testor.

Re: [Fishhound] fluke/summer flounder fishermen In reply to
I was actually going to try them for flounder and for trolling. I think the rigs will work well attached to a Boone spanish bird or by itself. It would have to only be a single blade rig, and it would need to be attached closer to the lure because of the short strikes associated with the target species. They would work especially well made with flourocarbon or Yo Zuri Hybrid. Cool

Ok you two ... You've got me convinced now. I am gonna pick some of that Yozuri up to make some good old stiff anti-ejects. If it has the memory you guys have been bragging about, I'm sure it'll work for keeping the hair of a rig inline.

What color squid do you have?? Are they the Hoochies, or B52s or something else?? Inquiring minds want to know.

I need some plastic squids that will hold up to the fish. I have been through all the colors of the P-line squids. Some get better reactions than others.

I have hooked them up on the trolling rigs but I do better with some big game when I string them up with a 1 1/2oz diamond jig inside of them and cast them in the Kelp. They are bound to get hit good as long as I use the color that they are looking for that day.Cool

I hear you on the seasonal stuff. Now that it is March 1st we have a better variety to fish for. The Fish and Game dudes chop off around 70 species for Jan and Feb. That only leaves us 337 species to fish for in the winter. That Sucks

Re: [tubeN2] fluke/summer flounder fishermen In reply to
The lures look great, my firstthougt was for Mahi, wahoo, kingfish, maybe sails. The hoo and king rigs would need wire but I still like the concept.

Also to answer the "do you think the red line made a difference?" NO, I don't need to try the rig, I know the science behind the stuff. Red is the first color of the spectrum that gets blocked out when passed through water. That does not make the line invisible, it just turns it a shade of grey. Take a photo of a stop sign using a black and white camera and you will see what happens. Also if red went invisible divers would wear red wetsuits. The reality is the stuff was designed to catch fishermen. Just my $.02

Hey Tom, I got my rigs yesterday. Seriously, those things look way cool. After seeing them, I bet they will work great for sea bass as well. Those thing are really cool. I've neve seen a squid skirt that small, and the pictures did no justice as to the quality of the rig. Good job dude!

I'm planning a trip in two weeks, that is, if it's warm enough to go. I'm going to slap a squid strip on the hook and cast it over the wrecks. If a flounder doesn't get it, it will probably drive the sea bass nuts. I'll make sure you get plenty of pictures.

It'll be later on in the season before I can try them trolling. The water temp needs to get in the mid to high 70's before they'd be very effective.

Thanks Tom, i'll keep you posted.

now that sounds like a fair price...

that line is any thing but cheep, same with the hooks and blades and it takes a nack to keep those loops taught and uniform with regular monofiliment, being able to make that heavy gage line do it is a real skill not every one possess,

Tom told me my steal walleye leaders were similar to his squid leader when I sent him samples of mine. (in design only). Well all I can say is when ya gotta a good patern that works, stay with it....Cool
