Well it's about time. After checking the fishcam daily for several weeks, tonight is the first time I have seen anything on it. I saw salmon in three different screens since I read your post. Thanks.

They are definitely on their way! The Washington Fish and Wildlife reported that the best fishing right now is at the I-5 bridge between Portland and Vancouver, WA. I had noticed the numbers at Bonneville spike yesterday. This will be the fifth year in a row they are signif. late. Must have heard about the Idaho weather!! Mike

This season is starting to look great. I have vacation saved also. I am planning on a 10 day trip. I just hope the numbers stay up. Seems they are early this year compared to previous years. Can't wait to hook into a 20lber and have a good fight. It is still not like Alaska, but it is the closest I am going to get. I wish we had a Silver run. Those fish are so much fun and taste so good.

Man I am getting excited for Salmon season. Over 7000+ came over the dam on Mon and from the looks of the cam tonight, there should be even more than that today. I can smell them on the BBQ all ready. Cool

We do have a run of silvers......... Go fish the clearwater in september or october and you might find one like this.....

*Theres no head like steelhead*
They came through hell and high water to get here! The least we can do is greet em!

Prvrt, that is a Silver, no doubt. We got a bunch this last fall, but none that big. I saw a few big ones, but never landed one. Check out the anal fin and the (as the Kid said) lack of spots and the hooked snout.

Go back and look athe the Granite Dam counts for September and October...

Your right. Did not notice the anal fin or see the hooked nose. My bad.

When I referred to wanting a Silver run, I was talking in the Challis area.

Once we see 15,000 a day for a few weeks, it starts to look like a good season. As it stands now it is beter than average. A huge pile of these fish are not headed to Idaho. PIT Tags show an unusually large number of Yakima River fish, and Upper Columbia fish. Stay tuned...and pray for more Idaho fish.Smile

All we need is 400 over lower granite and I know we can catch them on the lower clearwater. Heres an Idaho chromer my buddy caught on opening day a few years ago!

Chrome Junkey, the tan/brown fish are summer runs. The charcoal fish are springers. It is worth your time to make the trip down-river and fish the Salmon(Riggins)/Snake/Clearwater. It buys you extra time on the water, and the fish are a bit shinyer...

Are there some decent spots to fish from shore around riggins? this was my first season fishing on the clearwater for steelhead and i'd like to give the springers a shot. i read in the paper that more chinook will be headed to the salmon river system than the clearwater so i thought i'd go see whats going on down there.

Here is something I have mot seen before on the cam. Not quite sure what kinda fish these are.

I did see an Orange Goldfish the other night on the cam. It looked to be about 8-10" long and quite fat. The hand that was holding it was a dead give away that it was not real.Happy

My guess is shad... But then again I'm not sure. I was watching today and saw quite a few frames in a row that had fish. TOO bad the washington side doesn't have a cam. some days 3 times as many fish go over the non camera fish ladders.

Re: [snakeriver] BONNEVILLE Fish Cam In reply to
According to the booklet they show under the fish cam, http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/...Fish_ID_booklet.pdf, they look too short and skinny to be shad. So that means, I don't know what they are. Wink

I checked the cam tonight and every frame had fish. I hope they keep coming that thick. It will be interesting to see how many crossed today. If tonight is any indication the numbers should be good for today.

They are shad. The beginnig of the shad run are typically "jacks". I have seen of almost every year. A lot more than normal this year however...

Look at the V tail and rounded lobes.

Re: [Mojo1] BONNEVILLE Fish Cam In reply to
If you click on "daily counts" below the camera shot, it shows the number of not only salmon and steelhead, but also of shad. Yesterday, over 8,000 chinook passed the Bonneville ladder, but it showed a count of "0" for shad.

Things are looking great. Tonight has been incredible as far as tons of fish on the cam. I seen quite a few of those small fish again and have to agree they are not shad. White fish I could agree on, but, they even seem small for whitefish. Then again they may seem small for white fish because the salmon are so big.

I have to agree the way things look right now that this season is going to be one to remember. I am all ready counting down the days until my vacation rolls around and I am out hooking into these fish. My freezer is just about out of Salmon from last year. I think all I have left is a few steaks and they won't last long as soon as the weather gets warmer and the grill comes out.

Yeah the fish are rolling. Im glad they got the camera fixed. I saw a few schools of those small fish. They are not shad but kinda look like small squafish.

Im pumped as well. They are the only fish I just get pumped for. Steelhead are fun but salmon are a blast.

I called a Biologist buddy who said either Shad, Pikeminnow, or walleye. He said probably pikeminnow or shad...

I would have to agree on the Pike minnow. They just do not look like Shad, to skinny. If they were Walleye, you would think you should be able to see the top fin.
