Too late for Bear Lake?
I'm taking my family up to Little Creek Reservoir next week before memorial day, and then we will be spending the weekend up at Bear Lake. I have always wanted to fish the lake, but it is big and intimidating, so I usually end up in Idaho fishing a few small streams that I know real well. My questions are:
1. is it too late in the year to be productive shore fishing at bear lake? if not, where is the best place to try?
2. I have a boat, but no trolling motor or fish finder. Am I better off on the shore, or is there a place i could take the boat with a decent chance for success?

As always, I appreciate the wealth of knowledge here, and am happy to donate what small knowledge I have in return

Hey Jon, not sure I'm much help, but I've heard that BL is really getting a ton of in flow from run off right now and the water is fairly turbid for that pond and the reports are for slower fishing. I understand that the cuts are spawning and so there may be special regulations on the streams now, not sure haven't read the proclamation for Bear Lake lately.. If not, around the streams that dump into the lake there should be fish congregating so you may find fish close to shore there... The F&G had a post that said they have recently stocked Cutthroats and they were catching them in 25 FOW, but didn't say where... If you have a boat and know where the rock pile is off Gus Rich point, you can usually jig up fish off there or off of Cisco beach on the east side, however, it is a little more difficult this time of year and without a fishfinder, it gets tough... I have an old unit you could borrow if you're interested, or I might sell if you wanted it... In fact been wanting to switch units around on my boat, so if I can find time I may sell that one pretty cheap.. Let me know and good luck... J

I personally don't think it is too late to fish Bear lake this time of year. I have spoken with the biologist at Bear Lake and I feel pretty good about giving it a good try over the Memorial Day weekend. This spring has been been a bit unusual and the temps are slow to come up , but I'm going out anyway to get some well deserved Hydrotherapy .
