Utah Lake Access Maps
I'm in the process of a major rewrite on my book on Fishing Utah Lake. One of the things I included on my last update was a copy of the DWR website pages on access points. I copied the most recent updates (March 2017) and put it in a PDF format for anyone who wants to print out a copy to keep with them.

If you are using it while online, there are website links to some of the marinas...and click on GPS numbers that will bring up a location map for each of the spots.
Pretty cool. Thanks DWR.

Thanks for the updated maps.

In the early 80's I seem to remember access to Pelican Point, but I did not see it now. Has that been lost or am I just remembering wrong?

Pelican Point is under private ownership with no access to the public. You can still hit it by boat, after launching at the Saratoga Springs or Provo harbors.

Second hand info I got was that they were allowing limited access but...like other places around the lake...the trash and vandalism got out of control and we lost another fishin' spot.

Back in the fall of 2013 the land owners along the whole shore from Pelican Point to Goshen put up posted signs...even all the spots around the Knolls that everybody has been using for years. I have been working with DWR to help them get concessions from the land owners and the county commissioners to get limited access again. It is open now, but once all the paperwork is done there will be a small launch ramp, restrooms, trash facilities, designated parking, etc. All that because of trashers and vandalism.

I'm having a lot of fun with the rewrite. Been a lot of stuff happening at the old "golden pond" the past few years. Adding lots of new pictures, articles and links. Also adding a couple of new chapters. One of them is Bird Island...which had been lightly covered in the Lincoln Beach chapter.

I am attaching a PDF file of what I have so far on Bird Island. Would appreciate any good pics or input you might care to contribute before I put it to bed.

Spoiler alert (warning): There is a pic of BLK in that chapter. Hope it doesn't offend anyone but him.

that's looks really good, I put a few pics and a video, seen and heard many boats find the island, sent the other side of the prop pic and the state park boat high centered, I always cringe when a boat goes between me and the island they do it more often than you would think.

That State Park boat, was that on the spit arm that extends out to the South east of the Island? I was anchored up in the Eye of the Island one day many years ago and witnessed a State boat attempting to cross over that arm and high center and then continue to go forward for the next 30 minutes or so. You'd think the minders of the Water would have a better knowledge of existing structure to avoid destroying State property with there lack of knowledge.
A fine example of your tax dollars at work!

it was 2 1/2 years ago, ya it was on that arm, he came around us to the east off the end of the point, headed right for the reef, he was just at an idle, hit it, then gunned it up on and dug his way across, he could have backed right off when he first made contact with the bottom of his boat,

I remember thinking over and over again, Why Doesn't he just back up like someone that owns a boat would do..

Yep, I'm offended... good lookin' fish though.

I like to fish some of those deeper holes from the shore. Usually enter from the south shore where you can get close enough to step ashore from a boat. I stay away while the birds are nesting... usually later in the summer/fall you can avoid hazing birds or young birds and angry adult birds. Some of the terns can get real aggressive and do not hesitate to thump you on the head... always from behind. They have drawn blood on me a couple of times. And then there are the Canadians... mean when you crowd their nests or young. Late August or September is the best time.

As usual, great write up. Interesting info about the early history of the island.

Thanks for sharing. Always good stuff.

Your efforts are certainly appreciated. I've sure learned a lot from your writings and your vast knowledge.

One thing I noticed right away was the launch fee for us seniors at AF Harbor is $5, not $4 anymore. I know that for certain because I've been there 3 times in the last couple of weeks. Don't know if you're able to edit that.

Thanks for the pics. With your permission I may use the last couple. Good stuff.

Don't know what to tell ya about there being no requirement for common sense as a prerequisite for holding a position with a government agency. Nuff said.

After hurrying to get something available for the masses I have discovered several things that might be worthy of editing. I will change the fee thing. I have also discovered a couple of links that don't work and will replace them with good ones.

Glad you appreciate my efforts.
