No breaks at Otter Creek
Got a couple of hours fishing Wednesday evening, most of the day Thursday and a few hours on Friday with a total of 86 Rainbows brought into the boat. My buddy and I double stacked each side and run about 10 feet for the top line and 20 feet on the bottom line. Trolled back and forth on the south end of Otter Creek.

It started off slow trying Mack Ultra Light lures or a silver dodger. Switched to one of my Kokanee pink/silver dodgers and a watermelon dodger, eight +/- inch leader, half a worm with a green maggot. Then it was constant catching. A couple times we had to pull a line out just to get a break.

Most of the Rainbows were in the 12-15 inch slot with a few 2-21/2 pounders. The fight was definitely there when they came on line. A big concern we had is most of the fish had sores on them. Some more then others. Talked to a couple fishermen there and they thought the sores were sun spots due to the warmer water. We called a DWR Biologist and he said the sores were actually a parasite. He said they aren't harmful as long as the fish is FULLY COOKED.

I brought only a couple fish home that had only a couple parasites on them but when I looked closer I could see the infected area on the meat side of the filet.
Kinda takes the appetite in a different direction.

Saw that in Cutts on Yellowstone Lake back in the 70's. That lake is super cold except for the hot springs.

Now a single one of them went home with me. LOL

Safe, yep, but the thought was just toooooo much.Blush

Kind of like the little white worms in the flesh of the Pelican Lake 'gills. Sure they are safe to eat but......yuck!!
Just one more brookie........

That is sad to hear they still have the parasites.

All the fish we caught there last year ice fishing were full of them. When I skinned the fillets. The meat looked like it had coarse ground pepper and the skin pot marked with healed sores.

A 22 " 4 pounder won the contest at the store.

I hope we have a bunch of good water years to get rid of the bugs.

That sounds like a few good days of fishing! I wonder if east canyon still has those parasites in it? I haven't heard or seen pics of them this year. The parasites used to disappear out of most of the fish during the winter, but made for some pretty ugly fish in the summer months witch didn't look to appetizing. But the Dwr has always said there safe to eat as long as their well-done lol.
