Utah Lake is HOW far?!?
Dunno, but it took me 32 years to get there.

Finally fished it today, thanks to KentofNSL and our DAV buddy Alan. Kent owns the boat, Alan was the guest, and yours truly was first mate, midshipman, knot tier, fish netter, and general factotum once again.

We tried three places before finding the cats and then it was multiple fish on at once. We handed every rod to Alan for him to fight to kitties, most of which ran 26" or so in length, and therefore ran line, too.

All fun until I had a hook tear through the pad of my fourth finger when a belligerent cat flipped during the unhooking process. Kind of a point-to-point transfer, if you will. I admit to inhaling sharply. It bled, I survived. The cat didn't. Kent offered to call Life Flight. Funny Kent.

I was too busy to take more than one picture. I'll post that when I find my camera again.

Sounds like if time minus one incident. Hopefully you will find more time on Utah lake in the years to come.

Hey, you shoulda waved. I was just across the lake at the Knolls. Are you gettin' stuck up...or just stuck? Sounds like an owie with the kitty. Been that, done there.

First Starvation and now Utah Lake. You really are branching out this year.

We were at Bird Island. Being a stranger there, I probably waved in the wrong direction.

As long as you use all your fingers when you wave...

I feel your pain. At least I have also felt pain at the hands (fins) of catfish. They got weapons and know how to use them to their advantage...and our disadvantage.

The smaller cookie cutters at Willard are far worse than the larger ones with fin spines dulled from a few seasons of rolling in the rocks during the spring orgies.

Stupidity and rashness goes hook and finger. I was trying to de-hook the beeyotch by hand. She saw her chance.

The pliers were (I thought) too far away to waste time getting to. Fishing pliers and belt holster on my shopping list. I have them in my kayak, mounted within easy reach, but obviously need a second pair.

Still livin'. Still larnin'.

Get a good fish gripper and clamp in down on their bottom lip. Then hold on to it and take the hook out with LONG needle nose pliers. Really saves the fingers.

One stuck me Friday afternoon. First one in two years. As TD said, the cookie cutters are vicious.

Kent has a nice gripper and pliers. So do I. But as fast as Kent was hooking cats and handing the rod to Allen to land, I was feeling like Lucille Ball on the candy line. At one point, I had one in the net, Allen was fighting one, and Kent had just hooked a third while still another bobber was on its way to Lehi.

So I got a teensy bit rushed being deck hand.
