While I agree with you and others about the proper taking techniques, If you believe self-rightousness, scolding, and belittling is education, I disagree. That's what pm's are for. Humiliation is not education my fisher friend.

Just to be clear, though, Fuzzy, at the time of the video, the DWR was actively asking anglers to harvest pike from Yuba. Some mortality was wanted and hoped for unlike the situation with tiger musky where we are talking about a limited resource. So, yeah...it was ok with pike and not musky!

yes that is true!

but i we had talk about it on the ice i guess did not make the cut. about the danger of not having something like that for pulling any toothy critter out the water! and handling them so you dont get bit! these fish can and will try to bite you!!

i'll just say this put your hands by a pike or musky's mouth and you'll get what you deserve!! it only takes once! Sly

Look, I get it. Fishing is a blood sport and unwanted and unanticipated mortality from catching fish is to be expected. I surely don't blame you for wanting some pics of that fish and I probably would have done the same. I think all that K2muskie was trying to say is that we need to be careful with these fish as they are a limited resource. She gave some valuable information to support that and certainly gave you some good suggestions on how to make sure that unwanted mortality after a fish is released does not occur. Personally, I appreciate the info shared. I think if you are able to separate the criticism away from your feelings that you would appreciate it too. I have read and seen enough of your posts on this site to think that you are not, by any means, trying to kill fish on purpose. It is easy to get defensive when your actions are criticized...I say just take a deep breath and read the information and recognize the good advice. Nothing in that post seemed confrontational or antagonistic at all to me.

just so we are clear here are some pic's of the wound's pike can leave ya with...

that right there is why i exercise my right to use a legal means of restraining a dangerous fish to handle it..

now i will admit i could have done some things diffrent but in the heat you dont think about it.. sorry everone!!

This is funny, when I catch Cutts I end up with cuts on my fingers from their teeth but I know ahead of time. I think you’re all smart enough to know that the teeth on Musky & pike are dangerous so why would you even chance catching one if you feel so threatened by them? They do not bite, they are like any fish & wiggle around hoping to get away. If their teeth happen to touch you or you happen to put your hand in their mouths then yes you will get a nice cut. The teeth are razor sharp. I think this is just more reason to idk possibly ask K2 some more questions. Learning about the fish we target only makes us better anglers & also helps increase the survival of our resources. Guys, no one has belittled or scolded you for a great catch, information was given to help you to continue to catch these beautiful creatures in a way that will prolong those opportunities. Enjoy every trip on the water & never be intimidated by learning more. When you offer some angling advice do you expect that person to flip out on you for you just trying to help? Tight lines.

Fuzzy, you are exactly right, handling those things is like tangling with an alligator, they can cut you good with them teeth! That's what K2 and the others were trying to point out, there are jaw spreaders and other tools that keep you safe and protect the fish, so hopefully no harm on either side. I thought folks were trying to educate you and others, not criticize or call you out. I wish you luck on all your adventures.

i got they'er point and i know how to handle pike, and musky on most day's we get them in the boat and we have a easy way of handling them.. but on the ice fishing for splake your limited.. Unsure..

and if K2 started they'er own post about the handling of fish i would not have said a thing.. but when they go on my FaceBook page and here to make they'er point then then they are just pushing they'er agenda at the expence of my post!
