Hey Jeff, have they put the dock out at the Benson boat ramp yet ? Last year it was almost June before they got it out in the water.

Another nice cat John. I sure wouldn't mind landing one that size to get on the board with. Went out on Willard yesterday. Cloudy, fairly calm till later in the afternoon, water temp 51 to 52. Several boats working the north marina for Crappie. Wife and I chalked up our first WB skunk with more to come, I'm sure.

Forest sorry I haven't been down to the marina lately, I'll have to check and let ya know... Been bank tangling so far, so I haven't gotten the boat licensed, but will do that soon... They may wait for the run off to peak before they put the ramps in, so they don't float off... or else they are just slow like me.... Anyway I'll try to take a look tonight... Let me know when you come up and I'll try and see if I'm available... Later Jeff

Took a couple more pictures Jeff. I studied them both they show me losing a 1/8 to a 1/4 inch after 19 inches. It's a two piece thing that slides down for easy storage. I wouldn't be gaining any inches and I could live with a 1/4 less reading. but you be the boss your call

boy I'm dumb. I'll just stick to fishing and leave the math stuff to you Jeff. I know how to fish all the number stuff clogs my brain. I see now that the end half of the board is shorter which would make for a false reading. guess thats why it was cheap

It was tough finding for me today, got a 16 & 18"er is all for me today. It was sure a nice day though. J

Yes that is fine if they use your old board, it was approved in past seasons...

It is fun getting out a little more... I had fun last night... It was cold and windy, and I didn't think I'd catch anything, but I had to try when I could... Ended up with a 26 and 27" pair and they were both great fighters... One was the alligator roll and thrashing fight, the other was the rocket run and peel line off the reel like it's not going to stop... Fun times...

I agree especially since my lip hooks weren't in that solid that night. Tonight was swallow to their tails night. Got a 27" and 24" tonight. Man they are fighting great now, or was that because I got the 27" on an ultra light rod. I was nearly over matched. Just can't find a big one lately. One of these days I hope to find one like you catch. Tough for me to find though. Later J

aww...QUIT COMPLAINING ! I haven't caught anything even close to those. Did loose one big Carp at UL last Saturday, then wife lost one Sunday at Bear River. I finally managed to land a medium Carp Sunday. Now have a little bit of cut bait. Gonna hit the river again Saturday with my son. Maybe put the boat on the river so we can cover more water.

good luck on Saturday Forest. The big boys are starting to show up ever now and then. mostly in the morning seems like ones the sun get high they stop. Lots of little once making the rod tap tap tap then no bait. but every once in a while you get a big tug. I tried last night until 1am only caught a 25" and a 22" just at sunset then it was tap tap the rest of the night did hook one of them bait thefts right when I was packing up. This morning was about the same caught a 30+ and a 26 at about 10 am then it was tap tap.

Have been trying to decide which setup to use for a dedicated cat rig. I see you have the Ugly Stik which is on my short list. Which length do you like? What reel and line would you recommend? I don't expect to hook the size that you do, but even a blind pig.... Thanks in advance to you and anyone else who can help a cat virgin.

Make sure you get a rod that is medium heavy or medium. That way it's stiff and strong and able to handle a good fish if you get one. I like shorter rods like 6' or 5'6" but 6'6" are okay too. Use Power pro braid in 20 or 30 lb. I like to put 3-4' of 12-15 lb mono on the end. That's my go to set up. I like a Berkley Lightning Rod or the Ugly Stiks are good too. But anything will work. The Ugly stick is a good utility type Rod that will take some abuse and be ok. Good luck. J

catchinon: I have 2 rods dedicated for cat fishin. Both are 7' medium heavy. One is an Ugly Stick (all one piece) one is an old Berkley 2 piece. Both have fairly large capacity Quantum reels loaded about 80% of capacity with 30 lb braided Spider Wire. Use a hook leader about 4' long with 12 lb mono like skunkedagain, when fishing in water with lots of snag potential (UL Bird Island), but other places with less likely snags, I use a length of braided line for the hook leader also.
