I fished Jordenelle with BDuck in his boat yesterday, water temp went from 43 first
thing in the morning to about 45 by the time we left around 2ish. We covered a lot of the Reservoir , first catch was a Kokanee 14-inch or so . 25 feet down about 50 feet back speed was about 1.5 -1.7 mph , RMT Dodgers and squids pinks and purple worked for me. after several passes I got my second hit and turned out to be a nice bow about the same size as the Koke. Later that morning BDuck hooked a very nice Brown about 1-1/2 lbs . nice fish. From that point on it just seemed to turn off.
Of course the Power Squadron was starting to run and we decided to call it a day. That will be my last trip up there for a while. On a side note , I will say that that entire facility ramps , camp areas , bathrooms are very clean and very well kept.

We fished the Arm all morning with Rapala's and Jerk Baits. One strike, no hook-up. Switched up to flashers/squids/spinners. Equally dismal. Moved around with the same result. Goose egg all day... Had a great Fall up there, but tougher this time of year I guess.

Just curious, you guys ever troll w/ planer boards? Reason I ask is because I fly fish a number of lakes for trout and this time of year I'm concentrating in 4-10 feet of water. All the food and most of the oxygen will be in the shallows the first month or so after ice out.

When I was back in PA we would make occasional trips to Lake Ontario to troll for early season Browns (about this time of year) and we would flat line Rapala's off of planer boards.

Hi Joe , I use Planer Boards but not usually Trolling for Kokes or Trout. I've used them more for the Walleyes and Wiper fishing. But not all of the time.

Might want to give it a shot. The boats we chartered back east on L. Ontario used the planer boards to not only get the lures out away from the path of the boat, but also to get the lures closer to shoreline (and shallower water).

FWIW - I was fishing on Sunday, and did quite well fishing pretty tight to the bank, midday, in about 6ft of water.

We did see one boat using boards. I haven't decided if I want to invest in on the planer boards yet. My first time using them was on Lake Superior out of Duluth for salmon. With 3 of us in the boat we were able to fish 12 lines including the use of a couple of downriggers.
