Yup Iím guilty of that and I really like having that table in there it gives me lots of room to scatter my gear bait and lunch around. Plus I can mount my monitor for my camera on it so it makes that work really well. But I really should cut down before I fall through the ice. Maybe next year. I think itís looking like the changing of the seasons today. I even caught a couple soft water fish today. So Iíll probably start putting the ice gear away. Later J

I fished it on Friday and the road and the marina parking lot was in fine shape. It remains to be seen whether or not we will continue to have access with highway vehicles until the next storm or just until March 18th (the announced closure date). Hopefully, they do allow access until it snows again (which appears may not happen until Thursday), but I have thus far been unable to obtain an answer to that question.

I just received an email from Alan Ward:

"The plan is that they will close it off Monday".

If that happens Tuesday we will have to move to Plan B to access Strawberry.

If you decide to take a snowmobile to that area watch out for barbed wire fences.

Thank you for the alert. I think I will pass on that opportunity. I have hunch that a barbed wire fence and a snowmobile is not a good mix.[/quote.

I hope your are correct; however, it conflicts with the information I posted above. I guess I will find out for sure when I head up there early Tuesday morning.

Seems to me that a simple phone call to the Strawberry Marina Lodge would provide the answer very quickly. Just sayin'! Wink

Why would one want to do that and remove all of the mystery and guessing?Wink

That said, on several occasions, I have received erroneous information when I have called them before. It seems, sometimes, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing up there. The latest was last fall when I called and was told to leave the boat home, because the ramp was buried in snow and slick. Fortunately, I took my chances and pulled the boat up there to find the ramp plowed and even dry.

I just tried calling them and reached voice mail. It gave information about the Dollar Ridge fire (they need to update their voice mail message).

Not sure if the attached pic sheds any more light on the subject, but it does provide more details on what vehicles are allowed on the road. Looks like snowmobiles are still allowed to use that road, although where to park is a little vague at this point. Hope this helps a bit.

P.S. Snapshotted from the Strawberry Bay Marina & Lodge Facebook page.

At the ISE show a gentleman from the Marina at Strawberry told me they had kept the road and parking lot open all winter at great cost, but even tho the parking area was full all weekend, the ice fishing folks did not do any business at their store or restaurant. there fore they were going broke plowing snow ,so decided to stop.

In my minds eye I'm seeing a bunch of hard core fisherman out there on their wheelers and side by sides plows attached clearing the road and parking lot.
Just like in S. UT when the government was closed the good old boys brought out their trucks and plows. Smile

I erroneously figured that they got reimbursed by some government agency for plowing the road. Now that I am aware that they are not reimbursed I think that I will often stop at their restaurant on the way home and have a bite to eat. I have eaten there before and found the food was good and reasonably priced.

Trust me you guys are confusing the road closer with maintenance , the road maybe closed after the next storm but as of right now it is open. When it snows enough they will pile. Up snow at the mouth of the road so vehicles canít go past that point and get stuck . Thatís how they do it in all the in plowed areas I have riden

In about 14 hours I will learn, for myself, whether or not you should be trusted.

Frankly, I hope you can, but heading out from The Ladders or elsewhere is also very acceptable.

Your were right, they do get reimbursed, but only up to whatever the budget is between the DWR Habitat fund and the forest service snowmobile access money. Evidently with all the snow this year they used the entire budget.Unsure

Why would they close off the road though? Just donít plow it after the next snowfall but continue to let trucks and vehicles drive on it at their own risk. The road has about a centimeter of compacted snow. Otherwise the road is completely safe to drive in right now. Seems lame to close the road when itís completely fine.

I'm sorry, I can't answer thatUnsure.

I'm not sure if it's the county, UDOT, or who would actually close the road.

My son drove by today, they already piled the snow up to block the road just like they said they were going to do.

You can if you want to ride a snowmobile for 6 1/4 miles one way to get there. Wink
