FLASY FISH LURES fishing

Panguitch Lake
Never fished it before but stopped on our way to Brian Head yesterday and rented a small boat for half-day afternoon. We trolled indiscriminately around the lake for 6 hours with some black, white and green buggers and bunny leeches. Got tons of hits and landed around 18 fat, healthy rainbows. A great day of fishing for a side-trip. Saw some folks at the cleaning station with a few fish in the 18" to 20" range.

Water is somewhat murky, the air temp was perfect, and few boats on the water. Didn't seem to matter where we went, as we received constant hits and strikes that kept us on our toes.

My grandpa would tell me great things about Panguitch Lake in the 40's and 50's, so glad I got to enjoy a similar experience.

depending on your source, the meaning of "Panguitch" (a Piute word) is either "abundant" or "big" fish.

Panguitch has a very rich history of growing quality trout. That lake has the capability to compete as the best trout fishery in the state of Utah, with merit. Historically, that potential has always been short lived due to issues, like illegal fish introductions (chubs) by anglers, or water issues.

Panguitch has certainly come into its own over the last numerous years. Since the last poisoning to remove chubs, the lake (and anglers!) has enjoyed a consistent, quality fishery. It continues to pump out both "abundant" and "big" fish, just as it's name implies. There are always concerns, with recent examples of fires, algae blooms / water quality issues, and water levels looming large. But right now that fishery and the surrounding community is enjoying exactly what kanderson's grandpa told him about, and he got to see first hand.

I couldn't help it. It just popped in there.

No better place to go catch football bows IMO. Scuds are our ticket out there...makes me want to go soon! Well done!
