FLASY FISH LURES fishing

East Canyon Report
Went to East Canyon today in the yak.

It was more of an exercise in how to lose the net and a good leg workout on the pedals rather than fishing. Caught maybe 7 or 8 smallmouth, all under 12". I attribute this to the water level being insanely high (spillway had a good foot of water going over it).

Saw lots of trollers and bank tanglers, but it didn't seem like anyone was super hot on the fish. I feel the fishing *could* be good, but I'm not familiar enough with the high-water line structure to pick apart the bronzebacks (and a family beat me to the cliffs near the dam on the boatramp side by like 5 minutes. That's the only structure that was familiar to me). I don't have an exact water temp, but it was warmer than the air at about 6:20am, which puts it around 60 for sure (I wonder if a high in-flow from snowmelt will keep it low?).

All in all, a bad day on the water beats a good day at work (or sitting on the couch wishing I was fishing lol).

I think Cookie and I are going to drop over to EC this evening to see if we can stir up a smallie. I bet the crowd is a bit thinner. Watch for a post

Fish the flats on the upper end of the lake where the stream comes in !!! They are up in the grass feeding on everything that is being forced out of the ground as the water rises, plus the dads that are feeding on the green grass !! Long way to pedal in the yak, better to launch up there in the flooded camp area !!
