Well After I got there this morning I figured if it ain't broke don't fix it. So I went to the same old spot. didn't get any bumper fish but did land another 31.5 hog. She was fat. put it on my scale 16.31 lbs. also caught a 27 inch and a 25.

Last year we had 4 finishers in the 90's... But this is the highest 3 scores even though we did have a 96.5 point winner last year... followed by a 94.5... So it could be the best year yet, be fun to watch and see... Nice job you guys that's an impressive bunch of cats coming in... Sorry I was AWL over the weekend and just getting things updated... Was a busy wild weekend... Later J

I got out today and found a few active fish including a bumper. I caught a 22, 25, 28.5 and a 31. Ran into Ahi down at the bottom and spoke to him for a bit. John, did you catch anything else after we spoke?

Nice John. Have some errands and a Dr. appt today, but hope to get back up to the river today. Probably late morning, and maybe too late. But gonna give it another shot. Going To Lindon tomorrow early.

What a contest right now! Big cats rolling in the last 2 weeks including a bunch of 30+ inchers. Thanks Sharksugar for keeping the North firmly in the lead in the top 10. Ahi, what can I say, you are rocking it again. Ice is putting pressure on the top spot as well. I could keep going but will leave it at that. Go North!

Not many posts here lately so I thought I'd write something. I often look over the scoreboard and try to analyze (which is different from analize as my students sometimes have spelled it) where we are and imagine where we are going. The obvious: the South trails by 6 points. The per-fish average exceeds 30" for both teams. When you look at the inches OVER 30, the North has about twice as many as the South. So for the South, while 30"ers (except for Ben) will bump anyone's score they won't come close to killing the North's lead. At this point we still have four 29.5s that need to be replaced by 31s to catch us up. It may be that the North won't add any points to their score seeing how high it already is. Not razzing, just observing. So we Southerners need to step up. Fortunately we have the hosses to do it. I went back a few years and found all the Southerners who have caught 30" and longer fish. I came up with nine. Add to that all the contestants who have posted 29" or 29.5" fish and we have quite a cadre of anglers who have proven that they can catch the big ones. And we have a lot more members on our team who just might be lucky and snag a big one. No disrespect to the North, just a vision of how we can do it.

Well keep working on that Craig, but we haven't pulled out our secret weapon yet!!! Bottomwatcher in one night knocked off Ahi a couple years back and if I remember correctly he is a bow hunter, so most likely he will be showing up soon and adding to the North's top scores... So better start finding those 34"ers to keep up once he joins the fun...

I'm just trying to figure out how to regain the top twenty lead... Guess I need to catch a fish worth measuring if I'm going to help with that... I have 2 at 28" that need to be 29.5"ers to get us back in the hunt... But I'm struggling to just find channels, so bumping a big one is going to be pretty tough for me... Looks like rain next week, so maybe I'll get out fishing instead of farming this weekend... Later.. J

Yea Craig, the south team has almost twice as many members. 30 to the North's 17. And like I mentioned once before, more of the south team is retired or semi retired. That allows them to get out more often without having to wait for a weekend. Crazy

This weekends weather forecast is for warm and dry. And the temps aren't supposed to be as high. With the cooler weather the past week, some of the big cats just may be coming up out of the deeper holes in the Bear River.
Plan on heading there after work, possibly today, and for sure tomorrow. Then this weekend, probably Saturday, wife and I are hoping to make our last trip down to UL. Have not decided yet which launch point to leave out from, but between State Park Provo, and Lincoln Beach.

Bottomwatcher has been hunting and when we messaged each other yesterday he said that he hasn't even been out fishing. Maybe soon...

For those who don't know, those two are brothers. And yes, we are quaking in our fishing boots to think he might start up fishing in the contest. I thought maybe they were tag-teaming it and only one could fish at a time. Kinda like tying one hand behind your back.

Like you and Joatmon Craig, his schedule and mine rarely coincide where we can get out together. I probably fish more than he does, but he spends more time big game, shed and waterfowl hunting than I can or do. He has got some dandy bucks the last 3 years and kills more geese in season than I have my whole life. I've got a CWMU cow tag this year and he's going with me on that.

We had great times growing up hunting and fishing together. We also have our own families and spend time with them which is fine.

I didn't know you two were brothers, now I know how you topped the chart so quickly, it must run in the genes... I know in years past he fishes for a couple nights between seasons and brings home some monsters... Hope he gets a chance to get out this year... but since you're around we are safe for the top ten... Now if I could do something to help the top 20... I'll keep trying... Jeff

I found out earlier this season . Paul came up and introduced himself. He mentioned something about the monsters I had caugth last year. I told him that I was looking to beat bottomwatchers 33 in catfish from a few years back, and told him how Bw took the lead in the last days of the contest. As the conversation ended. Paul told me that Bottomwatcher was his brother.

John, that year I never expected anyone had a chance at beating you, it was totally amazing how he nailed such monsters in such a short time... Sounds like I was one of the later ones to learn about the brotherhood there... Maybe one of you guys will beat his 33"er this year... I think that is the biggest fish to ever be entered into our contest... Usually 32.5" is our biggest of the year... I sure hope I can catch a couple more 29's to help get my score up to last years, and to raise my standing a little... I'm not even in the top ten any more... Wish my fall fishing was close to my spring catches, but it never has been very good, guess I did get my best entry so far in the fall a few years back, but that's only one of my top ten fish, the rest were spring fish... But I guess I could get lucky and find another good one some day... Good luck to finish strong, less than a month left.. Later Jeff

I gave a good afternoon yesterday hoping to get a bumper but biggest was a 28". I've got a wedding this weekend and then hunting seasons are nearly upon us which will severely cut down my time to fish. I've got my muzz hunt starting next week, then the waterfowl hunt will start up soon after. Maybe an afternoon here or there, but not much more than that for me.
