Hyrum Veteran's Day Bash
Took my FIL to Hyrum yesterday for our annual outing, it was a nice day on the pond, little wind at times, but mostly smooth floating... Trout were a lot of fun, got enough to have a blast, most were 15-18" bows with lots of fire in them, that made for a lot of fun... Picked up 2knots a little after 10 and enjoyed visiting with him for the rest of the day... FishguyBri showed us how to catch perch, well he limited in no time, we struggled at the perch and couldn't stay on top of the pile, but did get one around 10" so I was glad to see a little better size this year... Then we went back to trolling and everyone nailed more fun fish till we called it a day around 2:00ish... fun day thanks all for joining us and visiting with us... Jeff

Hey Mike, Iíve seen Hyrum a lot hotter, but there were enough to be really fun and they were big enough to be interesting. Iíd go back if there werenít so many good spots right now. Later Jeff

Ok now that Iíve got the gear put away from yesterdayís trip I can do this trip justice. Jeff and I have been trying to get together for a hard deck trip but schedules havenít allowed it yet. He sent me an invite to join him and his Father in Law Rich at the lake. Have driven by it many times going up to the lot where weíre building but never fished it. Meet them at the launch and out we went, started off trolling for the trout, I decided to try grubs and trolling flyís behind a sling blade off of a inline side planner. Good action for all, after a bit we went looking for the perch, although we would find them on the fish finder they apparently were interested in staying put lol. Jeff did break the stripped kitty we had going on the perch. After a bit Jeff figured we should finish the day with a couple more passes for trout and they still wanted to play. Great company, thanks again

Isn't it crazy how busy things are these days... I just threw up a quick post because I figured if I didn't do it then, I'd get too busy and forget again... Really is a fun time to get on the water now before it get's too cold and stormy miserable... Of course I don't consider it miserable on the ice, just when it's wavy and soaking wet...

I do look forward to getting on the hard deck sometime soon I hope... I'm hearing about a bunch of other Idaho ponds that are actually frozen over now besides Henry's... Some aren't too far away so maybe they will be worth a try before too long.. Later Jeff

Hyrum is a great little lake that is also one my go to lakes on occasions. I often think about going back but unfortunately its been a while. The last time I was there is when we got blown off of the Bear very early about 3yrs ago and Hyrum was on the way home so we salvaged our day trip. Lately I've been contemplating between Willard & Hyrum and should make my appearance before the hard deck does, its only a 40min drive from my house. Everytime I go fishing there it has been really good. Glad you guys got into the fish and had a great time.

Yes I really like Hyrum too, I don't remember the last time I was ever skunked there... Probably just jinxed my next trip, but it usually always treats me fair... Now the fish are nice sized again, instead of the usual 9-12"ers it's even more fun... I don't think the numbers of trout are nearly as high as they used to be, we did have to cover a lot of water to find the fish we did find, but I think we were catching about 3 to 4 fish an hour between all of us in the boat... So we didn't get bored until the last half hour after the fish shut down for the day when we went the length of the lake without a hit... I guess the choice comes down to whether you want to play with trout or kitties at Willard.. Good luck and I hope you get as nice of day as we did... later Jeff

I think you're being too kind there... You didn't hear that your Dad's goal all day was to send you a picture to make you jealous... He was pretty tickled to get some of those acrobatic bows in... He almost said the fishing was better than Idaho.... Guess that Alzheimer's is starting to get the best of his memories... They were fun though... See you this weekend... Jeff
