FLASY FISH LURES fishing

Hyrum 11-22-19
Well, we started off really slow this morning since it was cold and I hadn't asked my FIL if he wanted to go fishing today.. So about 10:30 we hit Hyrum and started off trolling and it was SLOW we went from end to end with only one hit, however, there was two bald eagles hanging out and fishing on the glassy smooth pond, then a rutting buck came down along the waters edge looking to cut the trail of a rutt'in doe... Really fun morning to watch these things and the sound of those eagles just takes me back to Alaska, it was so cool... Well about the time we got back to swim beach Rich picked up a nice bow, only one of the day, in fact he had lassoed it and some how the line tightened on it and he pulled it in without a hook in it.. It was probably 14-15" I didn't measure it before I let it go... then we decided to try perch. We jigged for about 45 minutes with only a couple bumps but no hook ups, but I was seeing lots of perch on the Marcum so I knew they were there... Well I was getting ready to give up skunked, when I decided to try one last rod with a purple and black tube on. As soon as it hit bottom it was game on, I nailed three perch in three drops and they were 9-10"ers which isn't like Pat's 13's on Willard, but for me on Hyrum I was pretty pumped with this size of perch... Well I got Rich rigged up and we both went to catching perch and I think about the time we got to a dozen the size started to drop to 8"ers, but we ended up with the bottom part of a bucket full of perch and it was a fun day... Lake stayed flat and smooth all day for us, but the sun never showed it's face and we had taken a pretty good chill by the time we got in the truck to go home for the day..

They have removed the docks now so if you go, you'll need to deal with no docks and it's a little tough to get in shallow enough to get people in the boat without getting stuck on bottom, but we made it... Anyway have a good one... J

I was just trying to talk Cookie into a run over to Hyrum in the morning, when I seen your post. Maybe the talk of perch will get her more intrested

When I dropped my jig to the bottom the whole screen would exploded with perch coming off bottom and surrounding my jig. A good fish finder will really make it fun. We were fishing 17-19 FOW off the center of swim beach. If you donít take the boat you may be able to reach them from shore with a slip bobber. Couple inches off bottom to catch them. Good luck. Jeff

Yup I'm afraid the floating days are starting to draw short for the year and I like to do some ice scouting to figure out where the fish are banked up for winter... Tell you what those trout had moved... I'm thinking they must be in cruising the shallows, I hardly graphed a fish, but did see some surface action in close to shore... Good time for your side planer to get in there close... I'd like to try Mantua and Newton before ice up, for scouting purposes, but probably won't make it with white fish getting close at Bear Lake... Good luck with your building project... Later Jeff

Yes when I was out last we had more action on the top lined rods on the pearl grub and marked fish up toward the river in the shallows. The big clouds of perch we saw werenít there either. Framing package arrived on Friday and meeting the contractor up there today to layout the walls, hopefully we can start framing on Monday but the incoming storm may delay any real progress until after Tday. Good luck on the scouting, looking forward to the full on ice season

Wow youíre going to be getting really busy with the home at this point. Best of luck with it and I hope the weather treats you right. Hard to get much done this time of year with short daylight hours. Hope you have a good crew that can make things happen. Best of luck. Jeff

Well, we are going to give it a try. Cookie loves Logan, so I can almost alway talk her into it with a bit of bribery thrown in. - like Breakfast and a trip to the coin shop or the Aggie creamery.

Made it as far as the Blackbear Dinner for breakfast, might get to the water today, before dark. Hope the fish are patient

The fish will wait, we didn't start until about now yesterday and it took us till afternoon before we found the perch.. Do you like Cheese and dairy stuff? If so hit Gosner Dairy showroom on 1000 west and about 1000 North in Logan... Pretty good prices on stuff in there, the boxed milk that doesn't have to be refrigerated and lasts like a long time, is always good to throw in the go bag for snacks on fishing trips... Just too bad they don''t have a good ice cream selection... Often wondered why they don't it would make that gift shop really rock... Even if they served Aggie ice cream... or Casper's, either or are great ice cream places from Cache Valley... Charlies even has their own ice cream in a bucket lately, so lots of good treats can be found up here.... I usually stop at Ridley's grocery store in Hyrum, their donuts are top shelf, I think the best in the valley, but dang I gain weight this time of year... Hey have fun today... If you still need a crappie you can run out and see me I'll get you on a 6"er... while you're here... PM me... Later Jeff
