pound for pound is hard i've never caught one but mabye a pirranah

sounds funny.... but on base (shaw air force base) we have this pond with huge grass carp in it.... and i would have to say pound for pound.... do they ever put up a good fight!

My Vote for Fresh water would be Steelhead. With sun fish/red eared perch coming in sec.

Hey there howtobass, I was stationed on Shaw for over 3 years and have caught those very same carp out of that lake. LOL, small world. The best place I found for them is on the back side where the gazeebo is. I caught all of mine off of dough balls using a bobber and a small snell hook, like a size 4 or so. They are a heck of a fight.

Do you ever go to Wateree? You know, Wateree has a Military Only section that you can rent cabins, camp sites, and you have your own private boat landing. Also, the rec building off perimeter road on base rents boats as well as campers and things along those lines. It's really cheap.

nothing fights harder than a gar, especially if your are fishing with 6# test for crappie or bluegill. I don't like them because of all the teeth but they will pull your line everywhere, and shake rattle and roll!! ha

Go with me on this one Steve. After over 80 posts, not a single person mentioned a stingray. I know it's not a traditional game fish, but from 2 to 200 pounds, they are all balls.

Stingrays are a good option. Out here we also have Bat Rays. We call them Mud Marlin because they are as sporty as a Marlin. Only thing is that they feed in the "Mud".

I'm sure that you are aware that a 200lb spiney tail flat fish like the Sting Ray and the Mud Marlin will pull like a 200lb fish, that is lightning fast and angrier than a bull, slimier than goat snot will only pull with its "Balls to the Wall".

yea! i've been at shaw since begining of 2003. i havent caught many but i know the spot your talking about.. you can always see them swimming in groups... their monsters! i tried using the strawberry carp bait from walmart but i catch more cats than carp off that... where did you get your doughballs?

rock fish--they're hard to break loose from rocky bottoms,poisonous to touch, and you can't get rid of them fast enough.

I just used loaf bread. I'd get a bag of bread, rip off a small piece, and ball it up really tight. Stick it on the hook and off you go. Even buscuit dough would work. I know they like canned corn too. Thread a bunch of corn kernels on your hook and hold on. All carp like corn.

What's your career field? I was a 3PO51, S.F> Good times. My last duty station was Anderson AFB on Guam. Great duty station, unless you get stuck in the 613th.

i work in the engine backshop. not for the 16's but for the a-10 the tf34 motor. i'll definetly try the ball of bread... i've actually tried corn before but didnt have any luck. maybe this year will change. thanks for the info

Well, It has to be the great silver fish of the north, the Chinook!!! There is no other fish on this planet that can fight like the King!. Pound for pound they are tops on the list.

I would have to say the panfish... Bluegill, Crappie, Etc...

i just remebered that i used to go peir fishing with my dad off the dania beach peir and i hooked into a blue runner and it fought pretty good and it wasent all that big mabye 2-4 lb's and i was actually embarassed by that lol cause i was like WHOOOOOAAA its big lol (fish salt catch ever)

I was fishing for pike, with a what I thought a small dare devil about 4" long and a smallmouth the size of 11/2" took the bait. More than twice it's size and 5* it's weight .

Without a doubt, a Bonito.

Northern Pike for sure!! And they bite fingers too!!
