Re: [Saberfish] Casting Bass Flys In reply to
Saberfish, I'm going to say a 5w sinking line is heavier than a 5w floating line. Take your 5w floating line and put it on a glass or bamboo rod. Cast it for a few minutes. Then put a 5w type V or VII on and tell me it ain't heavier. I can't cast a sinking line on my LT worth a damn. But put it on my McFarland GTX (same carbon as the Loomis GLX) and I can cast almost the whole line.
I know that sinking line is thinner, but tungsten is heavier than glass balloons. Floating lines have hollow glass balls in them to keep the line afloat. Sinking lines have usually tungsten powder to get the line down.

John, practise doublehauling. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to cast 40' to 60' with just a single haul.
The other thing with a Clouser is to open up your loop, and on your backcast extend your arm out in back of you keeping your arm straight. When the fly comes to the end of the stroke, then proceed with your forward cast.
I'll see if I can find some Lefty Kregh casting examples. It's better than me trying to explain. I could show you if you were here but.......
edit- one more thing I thought of, on your backcast, shoot some line out- let the line slide through your left hand once your backcast is in motion (assuming your right handed).
Clear as mud yet?
