Help with CA fishing regulations
I will be moving from KY to CA in the next few months and just finished reading the fishing regs for fresh and saltwater. All I have to say is wow. 147 pages later I think I have more questions. I will be moving to Camarillo in Ventura County.

Here are the big ones.

Can you use a cast net on the beach? I think NO

How many rods can you use while surf fishing or pier fishing? I beleive Unlimited

And from what I gather there is a year around open season for shore fishermen in the southern region is this correct?

I will save all of my questions on the report cards for later.

1.) No
2.) 2 , if you buy a two rod stamp
3.) No
Maybe you should:
a.) Read again
b.) Get a lawyer
c.) Both of the above

NO? Don't worry our fish don't either.

Welcome to SoCal Rungeg. Perhaps we will have an opportunity to hook up as we sometimes get together to fish or drink beer. Which ever comes first. Here is a picture of the Justice of the Peace in your area. LOL

Just funnin' with ya, there are some odd interpretations of the law out here. Don't forget a Striper stamp, and an Ocean Enhancment stamp if you fish below P. Arguello. Then there are the special regs. for Salmon and Steelhead, and punch cards. No fishing for Black Seabass, so if you do, don't admit it. That goes for Garibaldi also. If a Sea Lion steals your fish you haffta be nice, cussing them out is ' HARRASMENT ' and you will be fined by a laughing courtroom and judge. Display your Liscense in a proper place on your body. Mostly this is your hat that will blow off and sink like a rock, 'cause the pin you used was too big. So now you need to get a new liscense because you can't find that damn carbon copy. Even if you do you still have to rebuy all the stamps. I made color copies of mine and keep the real one in a vault in Switzerland, but that's another story...

Welcome to the Cali board and when you get here, I can welcome you to some of my local fishing grounds.

As far as your questions go.

We cannot use casting nets here although they still sell them in some of the tackle shops.

There is no need for a second rod stamp on the beach. Those are only for Lake fishing in Cali. Only 1 rod on the rivers.

Fishing from the Pier, you can put as many rods as you can keep an eye on. I learned my lesson the hard way and don't throw out more than 2. (one for each hand when it's fish on).

Surf fishing can be difficult with more than one rod. Too many tangles and too many fish.

Shorefishing anglers have 0 closures for the groundfish species. There are a few species that are off limits at all times. I will show you those when you get here.Cool

I am going to Camarillo. It would have to be a serious case of homesickness.

You will love Camarillo. It is not too far from my weekend home in Oxnard. I stay there on the weekends an on hot weekends from my other house.

The weather is always nice in Camarillo. Never too hot, never too cold.Cool

I lived in UT and ID for several years. I can still wear shorts all year long here.

It sounds like someone did inform you of the "Red" zone as well as the "Black" zone. This is in no referrence to color nor gender of human species.

What basic area are you looking to live in??? There are a couple of basic rules in Oxnard.

1. Closer to the Shore, less of a chore. (not bothered by gangsters)

2. Closer to the middle, learn to play the fiddle. (have a cell phone handy for emergency)

I've been visiting Oxnard for the past 25 years. It has changed but and many of the residents have learned to adapt to the changes.Cool

My starting salary is going to be pretty low so I will probably rent for a while. I plan on trying to find a 1 bedroom in a nicer part of Oxnard or camarillo for 1200 or less. as close to the airport as possible, or atleast a short drive. My fiance (wife by then) will be studying for her graduate exam so we will be trying to live off of my salary alone. To bad it is not like here were you can get an entire house for 1100 or a decent 1 bedroom for 4-500.

There are a lot of new homes going up in the Camarillo area at much lower prices than some of the areas of Oxnard. Once you get here, you can do some house hunting.

I can point out some nice areas on a map for you if you would like.Cool
