Fishing

The ice at Bear Lake is holding up very well with night time temperatures still in the single digits! Snowmobiles and 4-wheelers are still on the ice. Ice thickness is about 16-18" with no slush on top. There is still about a foot of snow along the western shoreline access to the ice is good around the lake with the exception of the Bear Lake State Park Marina. Fishing pressure has been very light, but for the few people that have been fishing they are catching some nice sized lakers and cutthroat. Try right on top of the "rockpile" at Ideal Beach in 37-50 feet of water. Try tube jigs or jigging spoons tipped with cisco or sucker meat. Ice along the east side is also holding up very well, but there just hasn't been anyone fishing it. Try the same methods as described above but move out to 50-80 feet of water. Don't put your ice fishing gear away yet, there is still some ice fishing to be had at Bear Lake!

I really do appreciate this Bear Lake update. I am very sorry that I have not had a chance to fish Bear Lake this year. And it looks like, I will not be getting a chance soon. I would sure like to catch some whitefish. Do you fish for them in the spring and summer? Are the techniques the same, provided you find the fish?

Man this ice stuff is crazy. I had fished BL in the boat twice by this time last year,notice the ice in the background !! we need some high winds and some warmer temps!!!!!M.H.

I am looking out my window right now at my boat and just past that is a lake full of thick ice!

Warm today but the temps are dropping fast!

Seen three people fishing the East side today but no one on the rock pile or guss's point.

I hate ice!

I decided to drive over to the big blue one on a whim this morning. There is a lot of ice on that pond still, 12 inches or more where we were. The wind blew hard a few times but we put two fish on the ice anyway, both were lakers. Mine was 27 inches, 7lbs. My partners was 29 inches, 8lbs. We each had a few bites that we missed and I hooked and lost two on the way up. Bring you suntan lotion !!!!
