This thread in not to sign up for the Bash, this is only for posting information about the bash. The sign up thread is above under a sticky post titled "Lost Dog, Burbot Bash Jan 10, 2009".
A lot of folks were having problems finding all the info I have posted about the Bash because of how long that thread is, so over the next several days I'll post the maps and related info here. If anyone wants to post related info here feel free to do so, thanks. WH2

Here is a quick map I created via GoogleMaps. It shows the two possible parking areas, the BFT staging area and other points of interest.

FS Rd 12 is Lost Dog road from Green River.

Those coming from the Manila direction can take FS Rd 11 and walk across the bay. Many people will park at Lost Dog and walk across the bay to fish "The Cliffs". We have iced over 200 burbot along the cliffs just this year.

My assumption is that there will be less of a crowd on the south side of Lost Dog, just because the volume of people are heading this way via 1-80, which makes the Lost Dog road a more viable option.

Do you think that the people will need a four wheeler drive or not???

How much snow have they got up that way???

I have been up there every week for the last couple of months.

There has been little to no snow. There is NO snow on the roads, just a skiff on the south side of the hills.

Four wheel drive is not necessary. Both roads (FS 12 and FS 11) are washboardy, but not impassable with 2 wheel drive. We took a Dodge Caravan and had no problems.

What kind of wind should we expect?

Re: [UTFSHR] Burbot Bash Flier and other related info In reply to
On Friday the 2nd of Jan. there was a major pressure ridge between road 11 and the Confluence. It was just to the south of the cliffs. There was a lot of water and impassabls then. It may be frozen over and safe now. It has been very cold since. On sun the 4th, there was about 6 - 7" of ice off of road 11 and at least 7 -8" off the lost dog road. UTFSHR is right about the fishing, just beaware of the pressure ridge

Feirce, strong, calm, mild, strong, feirce, horrendous, calm, mild.

Usually in that order.

Last week I watched the wind blow a guy in his Cabelas ice tent about 100 yards down the lake. You should have seen the sight when he finally got the door unzipped. I laughed until my gut hurt!

I was there Friday and Saturday and it was beautiful and 44 degrees!

Just understand that that link is now 12 PAGES LONG!! So, once you reply to wiperhunter2 or DuBob, your reply will be at the end of the long 3-page thread. I only say this because some folks never see the last two pages!

SmileObviously you have been to the Gorge. From my experience the winds are worst during the day but calm at night during the winter...usually. Last weekend at night there was the occasional gust 2-4 mph? but not much more than that. The weather looks good this weekend so wind should not be a problem at night.
Last weekend I caught my last burbot about 3:30 am when I reeled up my other two poles, the action must have triggered a bite, always cool to catch one more.
I want to fish up there again but I crossed it off the list already so feel free to catch as many burbot as you want and if you don't eat fish I will gladly take them off your hands, I'm serious. I'll give some pointers to those who want to donate burbot to meWink, send me a pm.
Is this solicitation? If so, I'm guilty!!!

I don't mean to undermine UTFSHR advice about four wheel drive, but what I want to say is that if the temps get up above freezeing that mud at the end of the dirt road is nasty. If anyone is coming in 2 wheel drive just make sure you park on a rocky or hard area just a little further away from the water. Almays better safe than sorry. Smile

OK guys, until we hear from someone that is up there right now, I'm going to say don't head over to the South side by the cliffs, it is not worth taking any chances to catch any fish.Everyone please stay on the North side and as everyone should know by now the fish are shallow, no need to go any deeper than 30 foot of water unless you are chasing macks. It also sounds like ATV use is dangerous so please don't try to go across any open ice, stay close to shore. Be safe guys and take ropes with you just in case. See you tomorrow afternoon.
