Fishing

Fished the reservior out in East Canyon sun and mon. Had a great time. Caught a bunch of rainbows and the occasional catfish. A angler nearby caught at least 4 bass. I don't know what he secret was, but he was on it. I had not been out that way before. It was a nice spot without many people around.

Nice report, any size to the Trout ?

Were you going from shore or boat? I drove up there last Friday for the first time and it is a great little place. Can't wait to get up there to fish it. What were the baits of choice?

Sounds like Echo Res. And as far as I know there have never been catfish in East Canyon Res.

  I have fished out there for yearts and never seen one. The craziest thing I have seen was trolling one morning with Petty4life and caught a crawdad trolling by the dam.

I am sure that I was at East Canyon and...(Topeha) I am not going to make up a story about catching catfish. Not only did we catch a few, but there was about 5 dead on the shore. I would not have guesses that it had catfish either.I was trying out a bunch of diffeent lures, but had my best luck with 1/8 gold castmasters. We were fishing from shore right where the river empties into the res. The trout were nothing big. I am going to try and go back on friday. I will bring the camera and have some pics next time i post.

I think the DNR has been slowly converting EC over to a warm water fishery, just like they have done with all the lakes in the area that have the parasite in the trout. Pineview was the first, then Rockport and Echo, now EC. We first started seeing crappie in EC over ten years ago. In recent years the smallmouth were planted, now catfish. This is the first I have heard of EC having catfish in it but it does not surprise me. It could be that they just stocked them and that is why there were some dead on the shore, they might not have adapted to the cool water at EC. Of course this is just my opinion, I do not know this for a fact but it makes sense. WH2

Not to sound patronizing, but are you sure they weren't suckers? Those are in there, especially on the south end where the river comes in. I will be up there tomorrow and if I see a ranger, I'll ask. Fred K.

I was up at east canyon last friday(aweek ago today) and between me, my son, and friend we boated around 60 rainbows. All were pan size with 2 about 15 inches or so. We caught them on power bait, crank baits, tube jigs, and the best was trolling with a black wooley bugger with only 2 bouble b split shots on the line. Black wooley bugger with a tail and sparkle dubbed through it worked the best. Thought about going up today but too cold for me to go and catch little buggers. If you have small kids or someone who hasn't caught alot of fish, I say get up there soon while bites on, because its a great time and place to get alot of action for some young ones.

One word of advice. watch out for the idiot that likes to troll 50 yards behind your boat. You would think when the boat in front of you hooks a fish and it jumps 10 feet in front of your bow you would know that you are way too close. I'm not one for conflicts so I we just moved to the side and let them go by but, not without giving them them good old stink eye

I'll be putting my boat on EC tomorrow morning. If that same person gets that close, there will be words. Just a friendly reminder that there is a lot of water and he doesn't need to be close enough to smell my engine exhaust. If that doesn't work, I have other ways of communicating that I'm sure will get the point across. Way to early in the year to be putting up with that. I would expect that when the wake boards and jet skis hit the water, but not now.

Let me know how you do down there I was thinking of headng that way this upcoming week. I havn't been there before so any advice you have would be great.
