I heard that on the news this morning.. and didnt they also say something about the total area burned in sq miles was the largest in history??

what surprises me is that the Dodger and UCLA will be playing in their games there this weekend anyway.. I would think the air quality would be horrendous to say the least.. I remember how it was last year at the college and crossing the west side of Camp Pendleton..

My collection of flyrods is much smaller than FGs haha

I really only have a total of 17 flyrods. Mostly in the 4 to 9 wt range but I still prefer my 10 and 11 weight for the fish that I target in the big blue salty pond. I do like my 5 and 7 weight for Bass fishing in the lakes and streams.

I don't do as much spin fishing as I do bait casters/conventionals and saltwater fly fishing.Cool

Hey Peter805.
I am able to use my 8 to 10 foot flyrods in small creeks as you have described. The casting technique is what makes all the difference. Spey casting and roll casting was invented for such instances where there is no room for the conventional fly cast.

I have 3 different "No Load" casts that I do and they are all effective for getting to the fish.Cool

Now , which one? Orvis? Sage? TFO? G-loomis?
What kinda action would be good this rod with DT line?

my only input on which one and what action is to ask yourself what feels good to you.. what are you most comfortable with.. after you answer that then it is a matter of what you can afford and what features appeal to you..

I love my sage launch.. with its tip flex I can really feel the action of the line.. my other rods are a shakespeare mid flex.. kind of a thick stick but still a good rod.. also have a pfluger that Id say is a tip flex .. I have used that only on streams for small panfish and sunfish.. my only other or the mojo rod I have not used yet.. but dying to do so..

That is up to only you Pete. The action is different for everyone.

Nice reading posts by you TubeN2.
I have been getting more into the Spey thing. Bought the WINDCUTTER multi tip spey line and MAN I love that stuff.

There will be some creeks that require shorter rods. Not for the back cast but the fact the trees will form a tunnel so to speak.
You can't lift the rod up, or back and side is limited...then the shorter stick.

You could also use the ASIAN method:

I heard many nice things about the SAGE LAUNCH and
now on sale everywhere for $170.00 that is still in
my budgetSmile.
I need to cast one and see how I like it. Maybe at my
local fly shop where I do take a lot of my business.

you may want to do that soon.. I just checked their site and they are not listing the launch series any more.. I suspect they are being replaced by the vantage series..

You know, Sage is always doing that. Come out with a killer rod and instead of adding a new line, they discontinue the old one. Even thought it is suppose to be the same flex and feel so to speak, they never are.
They quit the XP, RPL, SPL, the LL which is one of my favorite Sage.
And people give ORVIS crap for discontinuing or changing the existing gear.

that was a guess on my part but from the description and the fact that the launch is no longer listed on the sage site.. it makes sense to me... :-)... but the price that peter can get on the one he is looking at is like a 50 - 60 buck savings.. :-)

It is quite common for distributors to blow discontinued items out when the manufacturer drops one of their product lines. I'm sure Sage gives them a promotional price to off set the reduction in their margin. Heck I wouldn't have any qualms about buying a discontinued product if the price was right.

oh I agree with you 100%... Id take advantage of this dropped price if I had the extra $$$$$ and pick up a lighter weight rod.. but not in a position to do that right now.. Mad what surprised me was the apparent dropping of that line without much news on it happening.. ??? but they have brought out that bass series of rods.. and the flight series (built from their Fli series), and vantage series to replace the launch...

maybe when I win the lottery I can "pick up" all those little items Id love to have.. like an h3.. a few more rods and reels.. tickets for you and I to go to Utah.. or Utah to come to us.. that kind of stuff.. Laugh

Hey FG. You may want to try some of that Boomer line also with the spey cast. It is smoother than the moss in the Green River. haha.Cool
