Dude... You've a long way to go. Start at the tackle shop closest to the water you want to fish and listen up. Ask out loud, what'r they bitin' on, and the closest 20 people wil help you out...

Don't feel like the only one just got back from mountain streams the water was so clear I could see the trout swim up to my lures sniff them a bit and swim away. Depressing! Just got one bite. I think I have my user name right , My machine crasher and I lost my file.

The best thing you can do is to get into a group of fishermem and let them lead you into the world of angling. Find a tackle store in the area and acquaint them with your problem or contact Fishing Clubs etc. Your State Fish and Game can also direct you to a source. Good Luck.

There are many hundreds of ways to catch fish. The best way is , when you see someone catching fish, stop what your doing, sit down and watch him. See what kind of rod, bait and how he is working it. Good Luck.

Hay! I learned pretty much everything I know in fishing books. One I request is "Ultimate Freshwater Fishing" by John Baily. Another is The book "Fishing For Dummies" or "The complete Guide for Fishing for Dummies" or something like that name. I also got a lot of info. from fishing websites and other fisherman. I request it. it really works.

I am a beginer and have trouble catching those slimey little critters, but I am finding a wealth of info in the Outdoor life Mag. also I found a book full of those little things a beginer like me does not know "Freshwater Fishing Tips & Techniques" by Gene Kugach. I now take this book with me when I go fishing.

mention to your frends that you have a pole but have never been fishing before but would like to go but don't know anyone who fishes. you might have to talk to a few diferent frends eventualy you'll find some who has a boat that will take you out. they will show you a couple of tips, and there is always the luck of the first time at fishing that will come your way while fishing with new frends.

the hardest thing to do is to find a fishing buddy.

YOU can use natural bait on any fish anytime any palce like i suggested before, no matter what the weather time of year anywhere! this is why i love them so. just remember with the night crawler only let ,em run once and when their runnin lift your pole with some force, even with the minnow, or even with a lure, and keep your ROD UP IN THE AIR AND DON,T ALLOW THEM TO GET ANY SLACK. DON,T FORCE, PLAY EM AND HAVE FUN. YOU JUST KEEP IT TAUGHT, SOMETIMES A GOOD BASS WILL JUMP, WELL NOT JUST BASS, TROUT WHATEVER BUT JUST KEEP YOUR ROD UP AND KEEP YOU LINE TIGHT. YOU,LL HAVE ,EM GOOD EATIN HAHA MARE

First thing I will tell you is have fun no matter what you are doing don,t make it hard and expensive. when the fish are not biting enjoy the sounds of the outdoors while you wait for a bite. learn how to catch bait and enjoy that have fun like when you was a young boy learn how to catch minnows and crawfish. you can find a lot about on the computer and books but nothing helps like just doing it. That is the way I taught my son and we fish all the time together now he is 20 and we still feel like tom sawyer on the river and REMEMBER THE NEXT CAST COULD BE THE BIG ONE.

GOOD LUCK DALE

I have been fishing for as long as I can remember. I always fished for catfish and used nightcrawlers.

In the past year, I have been venturing out into bass fishing. Bass fishing to me is the hardest fish to catch. There are so many lures, worms and baits you can use. Tons of colors, scents, shapes. What color are they biting today? DO I use a crank bait, tube, plastic worm, top water plug, spinnerbait? What pound test do I need?

The hardest thing about catching bass is knowing when the fish is actually hitting.

The first bass I ever caught I truly thought I was just hung on a lily pad again. I had gotten hung several times that day. I thought I was hung, then something pulled back. I got him within 5 feet of the boat and he jumped out of the water and spit the hook out.

Fishing has gotten so complicated.

My suggestion is pretty much the same as the other post above mine.

Ask around at your local tackle shops. Read articles in different fishing magazines. There are also a ton of resources on the internet.

First of all, if you're a novice, forget starting off bass fishing. All that talk about patterns, structure, weedlines, crankbaits vs. jerkbaits, water temperature, etc. will give you a major headache! Start out simple. Go find yourself a lake or pond with a plentiful supply of panfish. Get some worms from your local tackle shop, tie on a small hook to your line, add a bobber about three feet from the hook, chunk it out in a likely spot(around docks, trees, and brush in the water), wait till the bobber dips and set the hook. Bluegill--your target species--aren't very big, but they put up a good fight for their size. After you've become a Panfish Master, it's time to graduate to catfishing. Find a good lake, pond or river, and then head to the tackle shop for bait and set-up advice. Catfish are known to hit just about any bait. Out on the West Coast in Southern California, we catch mackerel out on the sportfishing boats and use them--cut into chunks--for bait. But no matter where you live, you can always find bait for catfish. Nightcrawlers, mealworms, crickets, cut up shad or other baitfish, chicken or beef guts, commercially prepared chunks or paste baits, etc. Some of the "exotic" baits I've used for catfish are: hot dog chunks, baloney, Wonder Bread rolled into balls and dipped into the juice from canned tunned, garden slugs, and a chunk from a Big Mac! If you can, the best time to fish for cats is at night when they roam the shallows in search of food. Next, let's try trout fishing. No, not that Fancy Dan flyfishing in Alaska stuff, but in one of the local lakes that gets stocked with planter trout by the folks at your local fish & game department. All you need is fairly inexpensive spinning outfit, a few sliding sinkers, some small egg and treble hooks, and you're ready. Just head out to the lake after it's been planted, put some jar bait on a treble hook(PowerBait is the best, with an array of colors--rainbow, sparkle, Captain America, lime twist, etc.). Now toss it out into the lake and next thing you know, you'll be sliding your net under a nice pan-sized trout. Remember, if you ever have any questions about specific techniques, just ask the tackle shop guys, or if you see a fellow fisherman catching fish, don't be shy--ask him what he's using for bait and what kind of set-up he has. Now, after you've mastered these fish, you can take a stab at bass fishing. As for information, just check your local Outdoor Channel listings and see what Bill Dance and his buddies have to say, get a subscription to "Bassmasters," and boot up your computer and type "bass fishing" into your search engine. You'll have enough hits to last two lifetimes! And remember, when all else fails, don't forget that all these fish--including wily Mr. Bass--won't hesitate to bite on the famous all-purpose bait--the nightcrawler! Anyway, I hope my little seminar was helpful! Good luck and good fishing!

Find someone that knows what they are doing and ask them if you can tag along. Then watch, ask questions and practice. There are as manys ways to fish as there are fisherman. You will find your favorite fish and techniques as you begin to explore. Its one of those things that are learned by doing them, especially with a good teacher.Don't be afraid to challenge your self, and remember every outing is another lesson to gain knowledge from.Even the pros are learning something new each time on the water.Learn all you can about what ever you are after, and the hunt will be alittle easier each time.Good luck!
