Tube and Toon mods
This post is going to be moved to the pictures forum by TD. I fugured that all the work that I have put into three tubes and my toon this year is worthy of a spot (so does TD) on the board so here are the pictures of what I have done with an explanation.
Made a tube cart (dolly) after the first wheel attachment failed on my toon and watched my son for a week run around the camp with it. Works great for round tubes and mamatrout FC4. The dolly also is made to come apart in three parts for easy transport and storage. Both kids can easily move their tubes around with little effort.
My toon didn't have a motor mount so I made one using another manufacturers mount and 1" PVC. Bolting the mount to if with Sch 20 holding the mount and sch 40 for the rack. I also made it able to hold 6 rods, the rod tubes are Sch 20 as well. I picked up a oven rack or grill rack at the local thrift shop and xiptied that to the rack to hold the battery box in place. I use a bungee chord to hold the battery on the rack when out on the water. I placed 1/2" PVC as a railing on the rack that is removable. Great for holding a life jacket on the rack within easy reach.
I then played with a tool rack idea. I eneded up using saddle clamps for a net holder on one side then made a tool rack for the otherside attaching it to the frame with a saddle clamp as well. I used another saddleclamp near the front of the frame for a rod holder to place active rods. Future mod will be to add a spot for a fish finder when I upgrade from the fishin buddy that I use now.
Mamatrouts FC4 was next. I made a rod rack that holds four rods and attached it to the D rings using quick clips through 1/2" PVC The other side has a tool rack with active rod holder and net holder. Have added a sail to it. She wanted a bimini so I found a seat shade online and picked one up for her. Works well. Also added a plastic chair to the seat for a little more back support. It is held to the seat by bungee chord.
Next was the two minnows 16" caddis tubes. I built a rod rack/tool rack combo for each one. They can carry up to two rods, a pair of pliers, and have an active rod being held all at the same time. Attached these with the quick clips as well. The two 16" tubes are red and green.
I spray painted all racks and holders with paint to match the tubes. The pliers I drilled a small hole in the handle and placed a keychain that I found at Honks Dollar to them The keychains are stretchy with a quick clip hook at one end. I attached the quick clip to an eye screw that I screwed into the tool racks for mamatrout and the kids so that they do not lose them.
The last tube that I have is a caddis 20". The problem I am having is there is only one D ring on either side on the outside of the boat so stability is a factor when designing. I am still in design stage with this boat and it may take me all winter to figure it out. A current idea is to use the pocket behind the seat (top of the backrest) where I will place a 1/2" pvc frame inside with 1" on the outside to hold at least two rods. I will post a pic of the 20" tube so you can get an idea of what I am dealing with.
