Thought I would give ya'll an update on how the stocker fishing has been. I went a few times with little or no luck but today my luck changed. About an hour into fishing with a small wooly bugger. A fellow flyfisherman came into the area I was fishing and we started conversating. Well it seems he has been flyfishing the same urban pond for some time and has the technique on lock down. He rigged up my pole with his setup and I started nailing em right away! biggest one pushed a decent 13 inches hehe. Anyways.. he uses 2 flies. Both beadhead olive hairs ear nymphs. One about 7ft down the leader then the second fly off of another 2 ft leader that was tied off of the first fly. Then he threw a little sticky strike indicator thing on the tip of my fly line and I was set! This guy possibly saved the season for me. Really cool dude.. even gave me a few flies after he left.

Hey James - glad to hear that someone came to your rescue. Double nymphing is something that I haven't tried before, but when all else fails, why not. Wasn't that nice that a stranger [really no such thing when it comes to fly fishermen] shared his success and flies with you.

It seemed to work really well throughout the day. For about an hour they would hit the top nymph.. and then the next 4 to 5 fish would hit the lower. I didn't have to change the position of the Strike indicator all day. Going to go out there tomorrow morning and try my luck again

I was talking that over with him.. Living in Las Vegas it is a rare thing to meet people like that. This guy used his own flies, tippet, and strike indicators to set me up and did not even think twice about it. Not to mention he did it twice since I lost the first set of flies on someones line that was snagged in the water... Just an all around really nice guy.

When I switched to fly fishing one thing that was clear to me right away was that fly fisherman are all different kinda people. The Good kinda !
Just remember to repay the favor to someone alse
Im glad that you having a good time now.
Now, remember Eastern Sierra is not that far from LV and there is some killer fly fishing.

I've been having fun fly fishing this whole time, I just could not put my finger on Urban pond fishing... My Uncle is a flyfishing guide and I think I have been to Utah or Northern Nevada 8 out of the 9 last weekends with him heh.. Been having a blast and learning so much. Everything from big reservoirs to the small itty bitty streams. I always mean to take some pictures but I always get to caught up into the fishing and forget. Heres a couple of the only pics of the last trip this last weekend 10/24-10/25 . My uncle's uncle has a cabin up there and we fished below his property. The fish laying on the net pushed just over 24 inches... the arrow is pointing to the marking on the net that marks 26 inches. What a fish!

Hey Sil thanks for the report & pictures. Cabin you say? Looks like a Marriott resort hotel to me. lol Really nice looking place. And whats best the water is right there at your feet. Cool.

Thats exactly what I said when we first pulled up.. I had never been on the ranch before because his uncle was never home there. I had only driven by there and seen it from a far. This last trip we had to pick up my uncles rhino and take it back to vegas before the snow starts and he was storing it on the ranch. I could not believe how gorgeous this mans property was. The sevier river runs through it and he has 3 spring fed ponds all with huge and I mean Huge! fish in em.
