Trout
My fiance and I have been doing alot of fishing at Lake Pawhuska lately. We have caught several brown and rainbow trout some small, and some rather large. Problem is, I don't like the taste of them. Does anyone have any ideas how to cook them? I did the wrapped in foil charcoaled version with lemon and onion and lots of butter. They smelled excellent, but tasted like a salmon and tuna mated... Please help. I still have a freezer full of trout!!! Oh and if anyone is interested Lake Pawhuska is stocking trout like crazy, but make sure you have that trout stamp cause the wardens check!

Hi and greetings from Utah,
I love trout and I cook them like this.
Leave the skin on and make sure the vein is completely removed from the cavity. Place 2 ice cubes in the cavity, with
broccoli, or another veggie you like, spices of your choice( mine is lemon pepper and butter), and wrap tightly with bacon. Wrap in tin foil and cook slowly on the BBQ. It will steam from the inside out and is very tasty. By the way, I am from McAlester. Let me know how it turns out.

Smile Bacon... I never would have thought about bacon. Thanks for the help and I will try it. Crowder is one of my favorite fishing spots, just mins from McAlister!

I never liked trout. To me it tastes like you just licked a live one but last year I caught a trout while perch fishing and I kept it. I filleted the trout, cut in to strips, dipped it in beaten eggs and then coated it with Italian seasoned bread crumbs (I found it next to the spices in the grocery store) and deep fried it in peanut oil with the perch. The trout was excellent!!! My wife, who feels the same about trout, said "you might be on to something". I can't explain why deep fried trout tastes so much better but it does.
Now when I go fishing if I catch a nice trout I'll keep it for dinner, I never thought I'd say that...

P.S. A squirt of lemon juice makes it perfect!

I used to fish lake Pawhuska all the time when I lived in Bartlesville and I've caught thousands of rainbows there. However, I never caught a brown trout there. To my knowledge, all that they have ever stocked there are rainbows and golden rainbows which the locals refer to as "tracer trout." I would love to see some pics of browns from there because my brother still lives in Bartlesville and he would be thrilled to catch some browns close to home.
