Buckboard Newbie
So many of you may not know me but I do post on the wildlife site quit a bit. Last weekend I took my first burbot trip on the wyoming side near the buckboards. First time I have ever fished the wyoming side. We nailed the burbot. Going back next weekend and I want to fish for some Mac's or some rainbows the next morning. The locals in Manilla all say the mac fishing by the buckboards is phenominal but I don't know where to go. if ANYONE can help me out I would appreciate it. GPS points or general location would be nice. Send a PM if you don't want the spot known and I will respect that. I only fish the Gorge a max of 2 or 3 times a year so I won't be putting much of a dent in anyone's fishing hole. :)

Another question is, are the maps in Sportsman's worth buying to view the depth of the resevoir? Are they very accurate? I bought one years back and fished by Lucerine Bay and went to where the "humps" were suppose to be by GPS coordinates and we could never get on them. The depth of the resevoir was still way deep. Any help at all is appreciated.

I use the plastic maps you can find at Sportsmans myself. I'm not positive, but the depths on the map are about 10' - 20' more than actual depth. Call Flaming Gorge Dam and asck them how low the water is from the high water mark. The map depths are the high water marks.

The maps made by the Fish-n-Map company are for a pool depth of 6040. According to the bureau of Reclamation as of 12/09/09 the Gorge was just shy of 6029 feet so you will need to adjust your depth accordingly.

As to the GPS coordinates on that map I would not put much stock into them. Prior to May 1, 2000 Civilian GPS accuracy was set by the Department of Defense Policy and the selective availability (accuracy) was set at 100 meters. In May of 2000 the (SA) was set to (0) allowing for more accurate positioning. The GPS coordinates on that map were taken prior to 2000. Thus they were taken with a less accurate GPS than those available today.

Use the map along with your depthfinder and slowly troll around in a progressively larger circle in the approximate area of those coordinates on the map (its within 100 meters of those coordinates), you will find them.

Generally there will be 5 -10 boats sitting on or around them! A word of cauting if you see a Little Red Lund anywhere on the lake AVOID getting within 300 yards of it! (Mad tarponjim gets easily excited). Good Luck! Did I mention AVOID getting within 300 yards of a Little Red Lund?

Can't say they weren't warned jim Wink
