Fishing Scale Suggestions?
This isn't like buying a new rod or reel lol. So I guess I simply want to know what kind of scales yall have, or if you have bother with em? I mean a scale as far as weight goes just for clarity's sake. Digital? Regular? lol Wink

I have a Berkley Digital scale an i like it. It has a readout on both sides so no matter how you hold it you can see how much your fish weighs

Alrighty. I figure i'll just buy a 30 pound digital scale and if my fish weighs more than that then i'll keep the son of a gun. lol

I use an old Zebco spring scale. It is fairly accurate and has a 24" tape measure built into it. God Bless. Dave

But the Rapala, Boga, Berkley or other lip grip style manual read scales and you will be much happier. The digital scale fail rate is pretty high for use in saltwater, cold weather, or numerous other conditions that effect electronics!

Digital scales are highly inaccurate in my tests, and I've tested many. Terrible in many cases. Buy a Chatillion spring scale. Or, like Don said, at least a boga or something manual. Hanging fish from a Boga is BAD NEWS for a fish larger than 6 or 8 pounds though if you want to release them.

Very true about suspending large fish by the gills or head for any reason! If you need to weigh a fish as sometimes may be the case, hook the scale to your rubber release net and weigh the fish in the net. You can weigh the empty net after the fish is released for a true weight of the fish.

Boga Grip... you can even get the IGFA to certify them if you like. If your worried about weighing a fish by holding the lip, buy one of those weigh bags like the pros use.
