Had a great night on the pond catching one ling after another! RDRR, lINGKING and My self boated 81 ling from 6pm-12am! lots of big ones over 30'' up to 34'' and 8.5lbs! all caught on the glow grubs! If you have never done the ling after dark from a boat, it is unbelievable!

Excellent job Ash, your pictures just keep making me more hungry to go linging. I can't even comprehend catching that many fish in a night unless I'm in alaska. Looks like you guys had a great time, good on ya.

So - how do you like to prep them Lings? Fried, baked, a little cajun spice? I suppose they're much like catfish as far as cooking and eating is concerned. Get on them omega-3s man!

FG has allways been a pond to me lol I deep fri all my ling beer batter and fri them. it only took a little over an hr to fillet all of them dealing with the slime is the pain but once you get thru that your good! we keep trying to do our part just wish we would start to see more people get after them!

   I suppose your technique would work on Fontenelle good also. Do you jig for them out of the boat, too?Fishley, dang, i'll bet you had to get some BenGay on your arms cranking all them in! Yes, i agree on the deep fry stuff with beer batter, and that is how i cook "eyes" too, and they taste better the next day if that is possible as all the spices absorb into the meat!! Tear 'em up!!!!

we have done very well on the ling up at font useing radical glow natural green 5'' tubes and the 4-5'' glow grubs Moveing around on fontenelle is key becouse the numbers arent as great as the gorge! The upper end was iceing up last wek so maybe a couple more weeks of cold and I will let you know how it is! ya who would think cold burbot would be good but its dang good!

We shouldn't tell too many people about that recipe, because we will all be elbow to elbow out there ctaching all those ling....wouldn't that be great? yes, fishley, have you tried that with walleye, the next day...ohhh myyyy, my mouth is watering jus talking about it! LOL You still tearing up the lakers on the Gorge? i went 2 weeks ago out by lucerne, and never had a bite, and these guys were out there and told me I was wasting my time trolling, as the lakers were spawning and i should jig! hell, it was such a beautiful calm day, i still had a blast! stay in touch!

Oh ya next day eyes! I love to eat fish so ya any eyes good but so are the ling I think as good as eyes? hell I would love to see it elbow to elbow still wouldnt touch them I dont think? numbers are unreal we have caught over 500 in 6 trips! been busy hunting and now chaseing burbot but another couple weeks and we will start knockin some laker's! I like to leave them alone to do ther thing ! I would hate some one to jerk me of my spawning bed with a 1/0 treble in the guts, if you know what I mean! Hey Happy Holidays!

Yes, ouch on the belly, and i watched about 6 boats hovering right over the top of the spawning beds, and those guys were really jerking the rods, so"snagging" was probably in order. Only saw one guy hook one for about 10 seconds, and then it got off! No kidding on the 500 huh, Fishley? Holy smokes, you gotta be making a dent...hope i can ice fishing this winter as it was somewhat slower this last winter for ling than the winter before! Not sure what was going on? I haven't fished the Gorge for ling, but hit fontenelle and Big Sandy hard for them! Wished they would allow DuPont spinners! LOL Do the Lakers pick up a little here in a couple of weeks? Hunting here, also, got a big bear and a yearling cow elk, so freezer has the "vacancy' sign turned off after 2 years! LOL

last yr I killed over 2000 ling and we arnt even touching them! an average night for one guy in 6hrs has been over 30fish so ya its easy to get a few hundred in a week! from what the game and fish has told me that big sandy is not a good ling hole any more, they have really targeted it hard to net them out? fontenelle just doesnt have alot of ling and never has but it does have some big one's! I have had some 20+ fish nights up there but key is to move alot! so you eat that bear? mine was a nasty smelling mo fo and it didnt taste for crap!ya the laker fishing will pick up in the next 2 week's as they leave linwood bay!sounds like you had a great hunt I was lucky to fill all my tags 2 even got a nice buck not a giant but a respectable buck so with elk deer and bear in the freezer I need to buy another deepfrezze just for ling filets!lol

 Congrats Fishley on a great hunting season! Did you get a fall bear or a spring bear? The fall ones are allot better eating than spring as they recycle all their wastes all winter long, so spring ones are a liitle less tastey! fall seems to be sweeter meat to me! I haven't got to try this bear YET, so jury is still out on the flavor and texture! I did go catch some suckers the other day and got lots of minnows and pretty ready for the ling, lakers and whgatever else swims by! I did talk to a bilogist last year about Big Sandy and he told me they have never and don't plan on netting ling in Big Sandy, and was ONLY doing habitat work on the reservoir, for whatever that means! I hope i can get out and hook into a good laker or two also. My biggest is 25 pounds so i am still an amateur at that game! But learning!

I got a fall archery bear, killed it on the 30th of aug and it was hot as hell, dont think that helped the smell or the meat! thats interesting about big sandy maybe they dont have a good forage base? not sure! I know they get ling in there trammel net study's so they are killing some out of there! I do know if you want big ling and big numbers come play at the gorge! Keep after them lakers you will get a giant but a 25 aint a bad fish! I know guys that have fished the gorge forever and still have never landed a 25lber! there is a pic of my bear on here under a post I made in sept? check it out he was 6'6'' and over 350 not a bad one to start and at 12yrds it was a thrill!

Fishley, that is way cool to shoot one with a bow, as i got a spring one in 05 on video and it too was 6'6" square. was the hide pretty full at the end of August? I put a bait out the first part of sept and pulled it ant the end, so deer hunters wouldn't mess with it. i had 3 or 4 bears hitting it and di get a couple of videoes of them, but the bigger ones were midnight prowlers, so never got one at the bait! Yes, i do hope to get after those lakers here soon again, as i put a I-Pilot on my electric trolling motor and really like it so far as the GPS will keep you within 3 feet of wherever you punch the button, so jigging that may work well! I am ready for the ling, too! Minnows sucker meat TNT...heck yeah! LOL

Ya it was a trip! I set my bait in aug within 3 days I had a sow and cub a little boar or sow not sure but in the first week I had at least 4 bears on it! by the end of sept there was 8 hitting it but only a little guy and that sow and cub would hit it during the day! I sat 5nights before I even seen a bear and the first to show was the boar I killed G&F said he was about 6yrs old? hit him at 12yrds he made it 20 and strated moaning I was flipin out as I had never shot one before! I had a giant boar hiting but he was allso a midnight prowler, hope to get my Dad on one next fall. the spring is just to busy for me to be baiting you know gota catch them lakers! but the old mans geting lots of dougnuts for us and iam geting fry grease by the 55gal drum so come next fall it should be fun! well we are talking about coming up and doing font here in a couple week's come join us! enjoy the pic I think they would call him a color fase bear? kinda a choc brown with a big white patch on its chest! now I want a true blk! oh ps them new minnkotas are cheating lol you will love it for jiggin!

Well, hell yeah, that is a nice bruin, Fishley, yes, there is nothing like bear hunting for making your heart race! i have been spring hunting for 29 consecutive years and my heart still goes ballistic and the body shaking and all that stuff! When you hear that moan, you about leave your skin! OH WHAT A RUSH!!!!!!! I would love to join you on fontenelle, but i NEED a foot of ice to stand on, as i fell through in 1991 on dec 27th and my idea of being "down under" is in australia NOT a frozen lake I weighed in at around 500#'s as i had on Artic carharts and packs and I was drenched....DANG!!! Drove home naked...at 55 miles per hour and Thank God for garage door openers!!! Noone saw me raw...i don't think!!! Yeah them big blackies are hard to get around here anymore as most are blonde or brown and very few big Blackies!
I converted my older model Minn kota over and Minn kota said I wouldn't have a warranty, as they wanted to sell me a new motor. Hopefully i saved allot of $$$$$$$

Jigmbig go check out idi gear they make the arctic armor it floats and is very light weight! no good on fallin in man you cant be doin that stuff! we will just have to plane a later trip when you feel safe Iam a goofy bugger and dont mind fishing 3-4'' as long as its clear ice! well got to run get the boat ready I got a date with some burbot tonight!

Dang...tear 'em up, fishley! "Do unto ling as they would do unto Small Mouth!" LOL hey, i don't mind fishing when there is 3-4" of ice....as long there is open water close so i can cast to! LOL I ythink you told me what you use on the night time stuff, but do you anchor up and jig aggressively off the bottom or slow like ice fishing? Let me know how you did! Good Luck!!!!
