We had one last place to check and glassing it from far off revealed that there were indeed a good flock of mallards on it. We devised our stalk and made it down to the water undetected. Walking over the last rise with gun at the ready at 25 yards and.....HOLY CRAP THOSE ARE GEESE! They looked about as supprised as we were and made a hasty retreat. Rocked a big honker on my first shot but he kept flying so I gave him another dose and he went down. Third shot was a long one and didn't connect. My buddy with his crappy 20 gauge had one down as well! We were hooting and hollering at our good luck and I set my gun down to go wade after the goose closest to me. By the time I was ten feet from my gun my goose resurrected and decided to fly away which gave me that pit-of-your-stomach feeling and I yelled "Tim kill it!!" Two more hits from that 20 and the bugger finally went down for good! Wow! No bands this round but we weren't complaining much!
It's been a long time since I've jumped a goose but it was something I would certainly like to do again! Glad I got out of bed this morning! Oh, and if you know where this is keep it quiet, it's not a secret spot but a little pressure goes a long ways!
