Hey guys, as you all know i'm competing in the FLW college bass fishing tournaments. Our next tournament at the end of the month is at Havasu, and i'm having trouble finding good recent information on the lake. My new teammate is fairly green so it's gonna be up to me to run the show, and i don't want to fail. If any of you have experience on this lake or know somebody that would be willing to help, i would so greatly appreciate it. PM's are great and in return i'm willing to share some UL secrets if anyone is interested.

My father in law lives at Havasu all winter and fishes there all the time. I'll see if I can get any recent news out of him to help you out. Last time I was down there fishing for Stripers with him we did well trolling with shad down near the dam. Good luck and hopefully I can get you some useful intel.

It's been a very very long time but when my Grandpa was alive he had a houseboat on Havasu. And let me tell you he had that place dialed in. I remember that he used to throw plastics on the Arizona side of the water near where the Colorado comes on off the rocks. And as posted above fishing near the Dam was always successful. I do remember that the powerboat squadron on the lake would very much ruin fishing. There is a very young crowd that likes to frequent there and they don't have the manners they should (I got swept off the deck once by a powerboat that decided to buzz us). Also I remember as a kid looking off the boat docks and watching the bass swim around, I don't recall if you could fish in the area. Had a cousin who lived in Havasu and fished it when I lived in Phoenix. The end of February is springtime on that lake. It is like a warmer Lake Powell. Look for prespawn or spawning largies in all the usual places.

Main forage base is shad, so shad cranks are usually good. Ditto for spinnerbaits along the shorelines. Also good wherever there are stands of reeds in shallow water. Definitely work the area in the SE corner of the lake where the Bill Williams River comes in. Prime marshy area.

Crawdads are also a food item so plastic baits in the appropriate colors often produce some of the larger fish...in slightly deeper water. Take your Senkos.

Warning: severe eye strain possible. Many of the young ladies on the local fast boats and house boats come from poor families. They can afford only very small swim suits. In fact, some can only afford parts of their suits...or none at all. It can be quite distracting when you are trying to concentrate on silly things like fishing.

Well, I would hate for you to have eye strain while fishing as TD suggested, if you need someone to help you as a lookout while you fish, please let me know. I would not want anything to distract you from the task at hand, so by all means, I volunteer to do all the looking for you.

Ha, ya agreed on the swim suit (or lack of). Definitely don't try and get any fishing done over spring break. Pretty tough to try and watch a fishing pole with all the distraction

My in-laws live just south of the Parker Dam area. Like TD suggested the Pre and Spawn areas such as the Bill Williams refuge are good. Also, just south of that spot is Havasu Springs, near that is a pump house with a no wake zone surrounded by a dike. Try the inside of the dike and around the edges of the resort. Are strippers legal in FLW? I didn't think so, but if they are, the open area around Havasu Springs was knocking them dead during New Years when I was down there last.

Yeah Havasu Springs is where the in-laws live. I hope they aren't the ones you are talking about on new year's eve. Seriously though the area around the resort would be a good place to go. Gotta get the shad first though

Unfortunately we are only allowed to fish the north end between whipple bay and catfish bay. It would be really awesome if I could get on a good reaction bite. Let's just hope the weather stays good. I've been in Parker in late February when it was in the 40's

Bummer on the limitations. Shuts off a lot of potential. Good luck on the weather. That time of year it can go either way. But forecast is for a warmer and dryer month.

If it is still chilly a good plan is to fish south facing banks...where the sun warms the water quicker. Not sure what that potential is in that area since I have mostly fished other areas.

The clear water is amazing...but can make the fishing tougher. Lighter line and finesse.

If you fish small plastics you can catch some humongous red-ear sunfish. And fishing cranks or plastics often gets attention from big ol' flathead catfish. They pull hard. Of course they probably don't count at weigh in.
