Fishing

Poky - how long were you guys fishing? The rain is on it's way! I hope the weather isn't too bad this week! I'm heading up on Tuesday afternoon until Thursday night.

i was up there wed morning til fri night had a pod come thru thurs night wed 1 fish fri no fish we fished a few spots below shoup and we hit above n fork for a day. We threw ot everything I think it needs to rain and bring the water level up and or get the water temp up. The water was 34* thursday I think if it hits 38-40 it will turn on good But thats just my thought

I agree with you on the water temp. I was below Shoup on Thursday night when the pod came through. Me and two guys landed 5 all within an hour of each other.

My two sons and myself went to Salmon Friday AM and started fishing at the Clam hole below Shupe at about 9 AM. The water was clear and weather was great but the fishing was slow. One of my boys banked a nice steelie about 11 AM and that was it for that day. We saw very few fish caught out of The Clam and the people we talked to all said it was slow. Sat. we got to Rams Head right at sun up and were surprised that it was not very crowded, because Friday there was no room to squeeze in there. We wanted to fish Rams Head so we made it a point to be there early, but within an hour the hole was full. All the people that fished next to us were very courteous and I really appreciate the good ettiquette. I hate the few bad apples that practice Combat Fishing. We each caught one fish Sat., which for me was the 1st Steelhead I safely landed. I have been fishing for Steelhead four previous times but was never able to bring one all the way to the net until Sat. I think the fishing was generally slow all along the canyon from what we heard from the F & G people that checked us both days. Warmer water may be needed to bring on the bite. We want to go to Challis next month and try again.

I share the same opinion of the slow fishing. My brother, Son, and I caught fish at every hole we stopped at, but it was surely slow for the first week of March. Water was great color, temp was right at 40, and starting to rise a bit. I hope a little flush of water will get the fish to move, but then we've got to find where they're stopping too...

I'm headed out again Thursday and we'll see if anything changes...good luck to all.

Anyone fish this weekend if so how was the weather and the fishing

I fished Thursday, Friday morning, and Saturday morning and the fishing was great. My best trip ever with 8 landed Thursday, 7 landed Friday, and 8 Landed Saturday. Many more hooked than landed and I didn't fish a full day except on Thursday. I had my wife and brother with me so we did some exploring and relaxing instead of fishing hard all day.

Weather Thursday was nice. Friday and Saturday was rainy.

Fished friday evening, sat., and sunday until about 3. It was slow for the most part. Caught 27" native buck on friday, 2.5lb cutbow on sat., and 3 on sunday (2 native bucks). Saturday was the worst weather ive fished in in a long time. Went through 2 sets of clothes just to stay somewhat dry. It was worth it even though no steelies the whole day. I will be hitting it again this friday til next wed. I was fishing between salmon and challis.

Magdaddy, we may have rubbed shoulders with you last Saturday at the Ram's Head. We pulled in about 11:00a and fired up our dutch oven. I caught and release one little hen there while we were waiting for lunch...

Below Shoup. And I was surprised that it was not crowded. We had the hole to ourselves Saturday until 11:30 and then 4 guys showed up just before we left.

Just got home this evening from a great trip. Fished below Shoup with a friend and my brother from Thursday to today. Landed a lot of fish and hooked and lost alot more. It was a blast and the weather down that stretch was not to bad. It was my brothers first ever steelhead trip and he schooled me. He caught a 33" hatchery buck. Water got muddy on Saturday but we still caught plenty of fish. Orange corkys and roe was working well. The best part was hangin out with my little brother and my 7 yr. old son. We had alot of fun together. I think I have created a couple more addicts!

Was there many people down there??? Thinking about headed down that way for 4-5 days at the end of this week and dont want to go down that way if it is still a zoo. Trying to get the girlfriend her first steelhead and thats one of the easiest places to get into a lot of fish thats if they are biting.....Thanks

People started clearing out on Saturday. It was very quiet Sunday and Monday. I think alot of people will start following the fish up river towards Challis. Got pics posted now.

Thanks. That first one is amazing. Can't help but wonder what that sucker weighed when he first hit freshwater.

Beautiful yet tragic--such is the life of a steelhead.

Awesome trip Mikk!! Nothing beats good times on the river with the "boys". I too place these times at the top of the totem pole. My brother and son are leaving this afternoon to spend the rest of the week rippin some lips....

Anyone know if fish are up Yankee Fork- Stanley way yet? Still too early?

They are there.

That was us. You sure know how to make everybody on the river hungry with the smell of your dutch oven. We ended up catching 3 fish that day, one a piece so we had a great time, can't wait to get back up there.

There are a few fish up high, but still slow. The Pahsimeroi Hatchery has over 1,100 fish as of the 23rd. Thats over 500 fish in four days...
