Fishing

  My newest Powell Rods came in on time just right for spring bassin' and I was excited to go to Lake Powell-perfect timing and name for the occasion.
We launched out of BF on the 18th, water temp 58*. Camped in 7 mile. Fished Bullfrog to Hite and back, and back, and back, in between and back to BF. Lotsogasmoneyspentatthemarinas.com but it was worth every penny. Bass on beds, walleyes on main lake points, crappies (HOLY**** that's a big crappie! repeated over and over) in the brush in the canyons, stripers that I know nothing about and landed one on a crank-check that one off the list, state record bullhead catfish that was put back-cool, bluegill, foul hooked carp and big shad swarming the shallows like I've never seen before.
Water temp at BF when I put the boat on the trailer was 65.9* Watch out!

You must be livin' right...or lucky...or both.

That place will spoil ya, or at least give you a standard by which to judge all other waters. But that wouldn't be fair now would it?

Reel nice brother! Powell is my favorite place on earth hands down, but have you noticed that besides the monster dinner plate crappie and the huge sunfish, the smallies and large mouth come up lacking in size in comparison to other utah waters? And I'm in no way dising the fish you caught it's just what I've noticed in my experience. I'm super jealous of you guys this is the first spring I've missed in a long time and even though she's a cruel mistress, she always has you longing for more! Nice J!

We only caught one Crappie on our trip (other post) and it was accidental, as we didn't really target them, but it was also a toad. Neither one of us had ever even seen one that big. I think it's on Arron's phone. (pic), and if I recall, it was pushing around 12" - 13" or so and was very dark. We had a visual on it's mate...they are definitely in the mood right now. Fishery is amazing this year.

N.E.T.O.= Not Enough Time Off!

Nice man! I was at Powell this time last year, right as the bass started moving up onto beds. It was a blast! I want to see that bullhead.

Congrats on a great trip and nice pictures. I haven't been there since before the low water period. Used to put in at Farleys and fish down as far as Red Canyon, great memories and big fish.
