A buddy of mine went out today with his kids and brought a extra pole and accidently put it the water and got caught by a cop and charger him with fishing with out a permit. Does any one what they are going to charger him?

I got one my first couple of days living in this state! I ended getting a 500 dollar fine

He has 6 kids all went fishing and he just wanted to get his kids a fish and was not thinking no permit and got the ticket

I was with my two kids and I was just sitting by the shore of jordan river. They saw me throwing back in a catfish from a distance and I was walking back to my car with my kids and fishing pole in hand when they stopped me!

Wow,that hurts..down here its a $50.00 fine if they see you

No fishing license for the adult. Accidently put an extra pole, all strung up with line, in the water?

Or does he have a fishing license, but no 2 pole permit?

He does not have a current one

So he doesn't have a valid fishing license and was fishing? What is the issue here? Stupidity isn't an excuse.

I wonder how many other times he has "accidentally" fished without a license.

THE 2ND AMENDMENT IS IN PLACE IN CASE THE POLITICIANS IGNORE THE OTHERS.

No Matter what he has to have a current license. If all 6 kids were there and they were below the age where they are required to have a license they could fish but only if he had a license. He will have to dig into his wallet for a big fine if he didnt have one. Its plain and easy. No license , get caught fishing, pay a fine. I guess you orginal question was how much. I am not sure but it will be an expensive lesson. But if he had no license there is no extra pole or accident, the adult has to be licensed or no fishing even for the kiddies.

Nope. The kids can fish without a license. Back in the day, the kids had to put their fish on someone else's limit, and therefore someone had to have a license. Not so anymore.

ok I stand corrected. I thought the adult supervising the kids had to be licensed. I knew they didnt have to put their fish on someone elses limit anymore and they didnt need a license but thought the adult still needed a license so my bad for giving bad info.

Fishrmn is correct and i figure most of us are dads and take are little ones fishing for there first time and i now i dont get alot of fishing when i take kids out with trying to get poles ready maing sure they dont fight or wonder off i can go on and on. He know it was not smart and will take his punishment like a man. The question is how much will it cost?

I am not sure but sounds like some of these guys are saying as much as $500.00. My brother in law didnt get a new license and was caught at strawberry and this was back in the 70's and if I recall his fine was over 100.00.

Having never got that ticket, I can't say. I don't know how much latitude the judge has in this situation. Sometimes there is a set fine, and sometimes the judge has a chance to use his discretion to set the fine. Let us know how much he winds up paying.

that's gonna sting a bit!!! I remenber when I was 13 my dad took me and my friend out to lake mead and fished without a license, he got caught and they ran his name and he came back with a warrant they took him to jail leaving us there, they took his fishing gear, towed the car, and had to pay a hefty fine. my friends dad had to come get us it was quite embarrassing.

What does this have to do with having a "big heart"? If you want to fish with your kids, buy a license. It is people like this who hurt Utah's fisheries. I get it if his license was expired by a few days, but that doesn't sound like what happened here. I hope he gets stuck with the full fine.

maybe its becuase he wanted to take some kids fishing and maybe he didnt have means to pay for a liscense at the time, but still you shouldnt go fishing without a permit, if everybody did that then there would be some problems

I wasn't there, and don't know what he was thinking, but it sounds to me like he wanted to take the kids fishing. They could've fished all day without a license. But he can't. The violation wasn't taking the kids fishin'. It was when he put one more line in the water. The real gray area comes in when he helps a kid that is too little to fish by himself. Are you fishing when you tie the hooks on for a kid? Are you the one fishing when you bait the hook for a kid? How about casting? I'd say setting the hook, or reeling in constitutes fishing, but how about holding the pole when the kid says he can't hold any longer when the fish is on the line? What about using a net? Taking the hook out of the fish?

Enlighten, I can't help but think not every one is Evil, and conniving. Like your understanding a day or two over on a license, I do think without knowing the person that this too could have been a honest mistake.

Do I condone fishing without a license? Do I really need to answer that one.

I just read this as a Dad that didn't plan on fishing, but took the kids. Man I wish my dad would have taken me.

He screwed up, but I am sorry if I see his heart in the right place. Simple as that.
A fine is to be expected as I did post for this screw up, as to the extent of that fine...know one knows for sure unless they walk in his shoes.

Yea, illegal fishing is a real problem on the Jordan. Can't tell you how many times I've tried going to my spot only to find it full of people fishing it, and I'm pretty sure none of them have a permit.

I don't feel bad for people having to pay a fine. I only wish they would check more often.

ya tell me about it. i go up to little dell quite a bit and everytime i go there, there are people first of all fishing with powerbait and second of all keeping cuttys out of there and not just a normal cutthroat limit of 4 but as many as each guy can get. i always try to let them know that they cant keep fish or use bait. plus i always see game wardens up there in the parking lot and when i tell them what is going on they dont seem to care, which is strange to me cause it still goes on.
