Fishing

Hey all, its been awhile since ive been on here. My son is soon to be turning 4 and he has been itching to do some fishing. We have a small tank in our apartment with a beta fish in it. He has this small wooden stick, with a string and a magnet at the end for one of his games. I came out of the bathroom with him dangling it in the water saying, "im fishing daddy". Needless to say i really need to get him out asap. Any info on any of the murray, taylorsville, or sandy community fisheries would be greatly appreciated. Im hoping to take him here really soon.

I usually go to kidney pond and its good fishing if u know what to use for that day. I went to murray pond a while ago and fishing was amazing for trout in the morning from 10 am - 2 pm than trouts went down and blue gills were active on worm and bobers next to weeds area on the other side of pond by the big tree but i went there like 3 weeks ago so idk how it is now i rarly go there because of how far the drive but highland glen pond and kidney is a great place for fishing for trouts for kids :).

Willow can be rough. I recommend the Sandy pond or maybe even cove pond. PM me if you need tactics and info on what fish to find at Sandy Pond for the kid.

Cool. Are you fly fishing or bait? Worms are good. And try suspending it 3' deep.

I like Willow and never really had an issue, but TDT knows Sandy. See what he can help you with.

I have been to Willow twice and goten the skunk. Maybe I was just there at the wrong time or using the wrong things. Seemed like nobody else was getting fish there the only 2 times I went. Still I am sure it has its on and off periods like all places do. I have not sworn the place off just yet.

I say this because I chironomid fish and I start at 3' and work longer. I think a worm with the scent could work that way.

Agreed. Now that I got a promotion and things are going well, i can afford to go fishing more often. And on weekdays, so its not so busy out.

If my Utah Lake plans don't pan out I could go to Willow after work Tues (around 10 am) to check out some new flies.

Thats cool. I have tuesdays off for the next month, so maybe we can meet up somewhere. As long as i have time to plan, im good to go.

Ha that would be fun! Dry Flyin is the best way to get a fish!!! TTried it many times with no luck, but when they slurp it off the top, it makes me try again and again.

Bought some flies for the Sandy pond today, as well as Utah Lake.

I usually take my kids to sandy pond... My daughter is 4 and she kills it there... We go almost daily... Worms under a bobber works in the evenings and green power bait works really well for the kids, fished about a foot and a half or so from the bottom... We just left there and she caught 5 fish in .. a matter of 30 mins then it got cold for her... I have always had terrible luck at willow, just my experience there... Good luck man!

I live right by Willow and have fished it maybe a dozen times in the last two years. I have caught absolutely ZERO trout. Grundles of bluegill, but no slimers. Granted, I am always flinging flies, but I'm going to agree with others here -- Willow bites the big one.


Either that, or I'm a terrible fly fisherman.

That's what i'm saying!!.. Ha haha you should see the fish people bring in at sandy throwing flies, it looks crazy fun...

Maybe you ought to take her to Sandy then. I have always caught rainbow, even a laker plus a bass or two, but Sandy must be better.

Sandy Pond is a great place for kids...lots of trout, bluegills and even bass. My first few times I did not get anything...but once I figured out the right tactics I started to have 20-30 fish days there.

Willow can be tuff, but the fish are in there!
