Hey guys I think we should have a channel cat contest and we should see who has caught the biggest cat in ut. And if you like, you can say what and where you caught it.

I wonder if I just missed the jumbo cats he catches? Sure he has hooked a monster or two, hell probably 3!

Either way I seem to get more bullheads outta there. Still good sizes for mudders but not like a channel cat.

Me thinks you needs to reread. Believe he said 'UT' cats, not 'UL'. You wanting to make it civil, north vs south?
Damned mudders are sure plentiful and easy to catch, but the channels are a whole lot more satisfying - on SO many levels!

So what's the parameters of this here 'competition'? Length, width, girth, weight? Gotta be caught in Utah in 2012? I'm at the 5lb mark so far, but have BIG plans (go big money!). Didn't make record of all the details, so no "evidence". Hit the 8lb mark last year, and 10# is the new goal, until I beat that of course....

AND what's the carrot? Gotta have a prize if you're setting goals, no?

He did say in UT. There usually is a contest every year for Utah Lake.

So what is the time frame? I know of an 11 and a 15 so far this year are they in the contest and how do we verify our catch? Sounds fun maybe the moderators can come up with a BFT hat or something for the winner. Later J

I think north vs south would be fun but really not fair to you northerly boys lol.

I've heard of many 15# cats coming from ut lake allready,my biggest is only 8lbs so far, but I just put out a bait pole for 20 mins while helping my nephew get into some panfish. I haven't fished the northern lakes,rivers for cats, but my money would be on u/l hands down!!

I'm pretty dang sure i can beat my 15lber from last year, i get into the big cats pretty often, then again i fish pretty often too

Now that sounds like fightin' wurds to me! Bring IT! (I"m gonna pick UTCatman, WildCat, Catmaster, and Monster to be on "my: team"! Just by sake of proxmiity (and know how,and experience, and wilingness to tame the night time bug=-fest!!! )
And hey - hedge a bet on Bama and Lava too - get us out at night-time - GAME ON!

I'm gunna go with the south on this one, I fish UL and the jordan a lot and I think the north will have a hard time winning this one
It would be pretty cool if this actually turned out to be a real comp.

That looks like a strong team, time on the water is whats going to win a contest of this nature, but the odds are strongly in the souths favor. There are just so many big cats in the lake. Would be fun to do this for sure. Who knows maybe some of the extreme southern guys would want to play too. Even with powell in the mix I still think ut lake has better odds.

Ha my bad, I read it wrong. Thought it was just a UL comp. Luckily it isn't as I want a Jordan River Monster.

I'm down I live here next to utah lake and various spots on the river. Yesterday fished a couple hours before work and a couple hours after work on the jordan river had a 11-8 shift. I get my time in and will win two contest with one channel cat. Now we need to think of a prize!!!!!!

You sure about that ???? ive been waiting for a north versus south on this forum since I was 18 yrs old... BRING IT HAPPY VALLEY. Hahaha

I'm telling you Northern Fishermen...the South has a definite advantage with Utah Lake and Jordan River. I used to fish those places a lot back in the day, and there are more 'bigger fish' there, than up here in Cutler/Bear River. Not to say we don't have our share, but the odds are against us. Still....we have Catmaster, Bama, and others with us so that helps.

Where will the boundaries be defined? I think TD is in that 'neutral zone' and shouldn't be allowed on either team haha

definatly the jordan river for sure. ive caught a few 15 # and had many more that were bigger just peel drag and snap your line before you know it. sounds like alot of fun though im definatly down for that. something different atleast.




TIGHTLINES

Cutler and the marsh, the bear river through box elder and the bird refuge all the way to willard, I think that's enough water to give the south a hell of a run. I've seen some monster cats out of the Bear through corrine and those areas. I know the state record is out of Utah, but the potential is here in the north for some toads. There does need to be a boundary for sure. Figure out some boundries and rules and I'm down.

I like your way of thinking J. I think BFT could come up with some prizes, maybe a hat and a BFT Tshirt or more depending on what the rules would be. What does everyone think about having some rules like we have on the Ice Fishing Challenge?
