white bass no limits
I was reading some of your posts about keeping whitebass. Some were for limits ,some thougt keeping a few whites was Terrable.
Just thought Id throw my two cents . I grew up on utah lake and for the past 50 years have ate probably thousands of the little critters and hope to eat several thousand more before I die. And It wont be from toxins from the fish.
My slant on keeping whitebass is this. If I caught 10,000 fish a day for 7 days a week there would still be more fish in the 50 years ,I fished for them, Than before I started fishing for them. Just an opinion .

Man I must have missed a thread or two because for the most part, folks on this forum don't care if you keep a bazillion white bass. If anything, keeping buckets of white bass helps the population.

CoolMore than any other Utah species, white bass are virtually unaffected by the harvest of anglers. They are more subject to fluctuations in water levels, spawning efficiency among prey species, size and number of predators and their own numbers. If they spawn well and have plenty to eat they are like rats. When times get tough they get fewer and/or smaller...but they will never get caught out by fishermen.

Those who are conservation minded simply can't stand the idea of anglers keeping a lot of fish, even if they are all eaten and none wasted. The sad truth is that some waters are suffering from that mentality...which has resulted in too many fish in the heavily regulated waters and stunting of the fish that live there.

I agree they are tough to kill. As for me, I do not like the flavor. If I fish next too people that enjoy the flavor, I will help them fill their buckets

Be careful, you just admitted to breaking the law. "You may not donate fish in the field."

That's more like it Joe - 's'what I'm tawking 'bout!

I've never caught a white-bass, so don't have a specific point of reference. BUT I have tried small mouth, large mouth, and wipers, and found them all to be tender, flaky white meat (Wipers take a bit more fillet work to cut out the "grey line" - bigger fish)

So I'd have to suggest if you don't like white-bass, you either - (1) don't like fish (2) didn't clean or fillet them well enough (3) need more spice!
I've heard some folks attest that they like bass more than walleye.

TD offered up a recipe for white-bass a while ago.

In general, folks I've known that say they don't like fish, just haven't had 'em prepped right! Secrets in the sauce - as they say!

Roger that, I didn't know that. I guess the other than the few I keep to use for bait, the rest will grow into slabs for other people to use on the dinner tables.

I have only recently started catching whities. I even ate my first ones this last week, and was delighted by the flavor. I would love to be one of the people who can harvest a slew of those critters. I know I will be working my new favorite spots along the Jordan this summer in hopes of landing a few more, and who knows, maybe even some channels or walleyes.

They make perfect little fish tacos!
A mixture of flour and taco seasoning to dredge the fillets in.
Fry them up.
Taco-ize them!

Every year during first ice I take my wife and kids after the whities. We take lots of hot chocolate, donuts and five gallon buckets. After filling 2/3/4 buckets we head home (all I get to do is serve hot chocolate and unhook fish). I fillet for several hours, then we package all the fillets really nice and load the kids back in the car. We take the kids to family and friends houses and let them deliver all the fish. We call it Redneck Christmas caroling. Its turned into one of my families favorite traditions, and we get a lot of positive feedback from all the recipients. We only take to people I know will use it. I feel like were doing the fishery a service by keeping a bunch. That lake has soooo many white bass.

sounds very good. I will definatly try that taco thing.I need to bring my camp stove, fishing with along with my small camp trailer I think I need to make a new super good recipie and cook some up soon.
Think I will begin with white flour , broun flower, corn meal in a big baggy salt, onoin pouder, garic pouder, season salt ,lots of black peper.
some vegitable oil, or butter.
Deep fry in A heavey pan with good butter till the fillets are stiff.drain on a paper towl.
pour apple cyder vinigar on them. and a lemmon wedge.
Fry up some hash brouns, Homemade bread, and jalipeenoes I cabned last fall.A beer would go good, but I stoped drinking years ago. so a mt dew will have to do, I shure hope I can get into the whites and ther fishes in UT Lake, I am gtting hungy.
