You can rest assured we aren't worried that you are going to catch it. Let the boys that actually know how to catch big fish handle this one. If there is a planter trout comp then feel free to chime in, until then shhhhhhhh!

If this is a south vs north then I will chime in thank you very much.

Even a blind man can see that the state record came from our area boyz.... Been so since 1978! Put this in your pipe and smoke it!!!

Angling record:

1978; 32 lbs. 8 oz.; L: 39-¾ in.; G: 22 in.; LeRoy Mortenson; Utah Lake.

Im sorry is this record anywhere near your playgrounds up there? Didn't think so!

I don't think they had even introduced channel cats in Cutler that long ago so you guys down south should have the advantage but talk is cheap let's start to see some results. Later J

I'm game and I'm sure it doesn't hurt to do a little advertising. Plus the bragging rights of being the BFT catfish king is bound to keep the competition keen. Are your thoughts towards measure and take a picture for verification and then we can release them because the big cats aren't very good to eat and I'd hate to kill a big spawning momma. Not that I want to start one of those fights I just prefer to eat cookie cutters myself. If you have some extra hats there is talk of a friendly contest on the Bear Flotilla this Saturday looking for prizes for largest of each species or most species caught. Who knows we might have an entry for the big cat contest. Thanks. Later J

Yes, that would be the best method the insure fairness. if members want to weigh fish that is fine but it won't count for the contest. I'm not sure how quick we could get this contest up and running but I like the idea of running it until Aug or three months from the start date and having a monthly prize plus a grand prize at the end of three months.

I say when you take a picture have the time/date stamp on the pic. So no one can use pictures of the past. What do ya'll think?

hell ya man i think if this little challenge goes down UL or the jordan well produce bigger fish then up north. never tried for them at night yet but its something id like to try. me and my dad have been going in the day on like 4500 south in murray and catching a few nice ones but not the numbers your saying, like 2 or 3 a trip. ive also hooked what i beleive to be catfish that just peeled drag so fast i couldnt do anything until the line snapped. is the river flowing low towards the lake cause closer to salt lake its pretty low and suprisingly clear for that river.

I'm not so sure Utah Lake or the Jordan River are a sure shoe in for this. I Have seen some big fish come out of the Bear River by the Bird Refuge.

I'm well aware of where the record is from, but that was 30 + years ago. UL is an awesome cat fishery, but so are the waters up here. I'm not gonna argue with ya, I'll let my fishing do the talking for me. Good luck to everyone It's gonna be great to see some big ol kitties, where ever they come from.

If you sit and worry about what might happen, nothing ever will.

Well who's going to step up and make the rules? I have never fished contest style so I don't know the first thing about it. Even if we just did a sticky thread with pics that would be fine.

Cutler and the marsh, the bear river through box elder and the bird refuge all the way to willard, I think that's enough water to give the south a hell of a run. I've seen some monster cats out of the Bear through corrine and those areas. I know the state record is out of Utah, but the potential is here in the north for some toads. There does need to be a boundary for sure. Figure out some boundries and rules and I'm down.

Sounds like a good boundary. What about the Weber river? And if you have Utah Lake, Jordan river down south - what else? Should we limit to certain waters, or just draw a line on the map? Two regions enough?
