Following in the Footsteps of Others....
With all this "artic" success from my friends and family lately I knew that I had to get a piece of the pie before the spawn ended. So I enlisted BFT's FlyFishing Lover (aka AM1
) to come along for the hike. We started early...ok well not so early since he lives so far away. Driving up the dirt road we almost got a free 100lbs bumper sticker....luckily the deer jumped left, not right. At the trailhead we suited up the goodies and got to the pain part.
FFL was off like a ghazel being chased by a lion! Me I was more like a turtle looking for a place to bed down. We met back up at the 1st brookie pond. Tried a few casts....just a bite on the spinner. So we crossed the river and made haste for the lake!
Once at the lake the wind was NUKING...but that ment the bugs were kept at bay. Sure enough I fly casted the "zebra midge" and BAM....caught my 1st Artic Grayling.
Then for the next couple of hours it was one after another
.
Then the wind stopped...and the bitting bugs came out in full force! With my jacket on me already, I had some body armor...but my legs were getting assaulted. So I got some mud and spread it over my legs. Hey it worked! You know women pay good money for those kind of "mud treatments"
. I started to get into some cutthroats at the end of the day. Both of which were released
At 6pm we called it quits and started back to the car. On the way down we encountered some deer, but no moose...maybe that moose wants nothing to do with spikey haired fisherman anymore after its last encounter. Kept the bear spray out and in hand the whole way down. Ended up catching 20 Artic Grayling and 2 Cutthroat Trout. FFL got 15 Artic Grayling and 3 Cutts.
ADDITIONAL............
Ugh....I go out to tackle a bucket list/get even with TDT, and TDT adds another one (Walleye) to the list!
"Think like a fish.....no matter how crazy it gets!"
