CJ Strike report 6/16
Hit the Lake late with the family to try for perch or crappy. We got to the lake about 3pm. One of my old perch spots was on. We fished till around 530pm then went and let the kids play in the water and float behind the boat. My kids did not fish but still had fun, my wife caught 3 and i caught 53. They were all nice 10 plusers. I jigged on the bottom tipped with cut bait.

Very nice. Probably the best perch report I've heard all year.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. Here comes the stupid, or lets say uneducated questions. I have never gone fishing just for perch....lived here all my life, i have caught a few when bass or walleye fishing. A couple were pretty good size. Do they taste good? I like bass, crappie, cats, walleye, and ocassionally trout. They must be tasty?

When you sasy cut bait, what exactly do you mean? from another perch, or from a squaw fish? sorry if you do not want to share that info openly. Totally understand.
I know in the past i have used a crappie tongue to catch many crappie....very resilient, stays on the hook along time, and for some reason other crappie love it...must be like french kissing or something :)

Thanks...

Chuck

I love me some fried crappy and perch. i mix them together when i fry them up both are really good. There is a difference in the tast but not much...both are good

For cut bait--when i fillet my fish i cut the belly and rib meat out whole. Then i take the fillet knife and re-fillet the rib meat. I use that for my cut bait. I also take the rib/belly meat peices and freeze them to put in my crawdad traps later. Hope this helps.

We have had people over many times for a combo of perch, crappie, etc., and it seems that everyone loves all of them, and that if there is a favorite it is due more to the thickness of the fillet than the species. I personally don't think there is a nickel's worth of difference in the panfish. You are sure right about crappie tongue. I now use the crappie nibbles more often, but they do go nuts over crappie tongue. We discovered that years ago when we were bank fishing at Paddock Res. and were doing nothing, when a fellow came along and started hauling fish out about every minute. He showed us his "tongue" secret, and boom, we couldn't fight off the crappie with a stick. Mike
