I read and post little, I'm a message board veteran who learned long ago that just about any topic that sparks interest also sparks controversy.

I got burned out with all the nit picking and bickering years ago. Now I just use this and a couple other boards as entertainment.

So, thanks to those that post good infoSmile

You're always going to have lurkers on forums. Even if someone started another Idaho forum where only members could see posts, what's to stop people from registering and never contributing? Not like it's hard to sign up using a throwaway email account.

FYI, if the state board here is dead, it means someone else started a popular board devoted to their area elsewhere on the net before BFT. Google can help you find them, I'm sure.

I must admit the 'look what I caught at my super secret hole on my super secret bait don't bother asking' non-reports come off as childish 'ha ha I know something you don't know' gloating. If you don't want to share, then don't post.

Otherwise, I think people here are too concerned about what other people are doing or not doing. Just fish.

Welcome!

I see you are from Worland. Are you currently a student in Idaho, or do you just come over to fish?

well i live in utah but consider myself i idaho angler i live 15 mins from the border and i would much rather fish idaho the fish are bigger and the rivers and lakes are cleaner. ever time there is a good fishing report posted about utah waters. the next day there are 100 people there and no fish left. but the freezers are full and the trash is left all over the shore line.

I couldnt have said it better my self. I read almost every day i post when i have an opinion on something but i feel somewhat burnt on the bickering. I have met many of the frequent BFT posters and have enjoyed there comrodery, and always i love hearing about everyones fishing trips, ideas, and knowledge.

This has to be this most ridiculous premise for a thread I have seen in at least 5 years. -1

It's interesting to see who has come out of the wood works when they get stung a little bit on this thread. Now if we can all post up and contribute instead of posting to try to justify not posting, things can really get going here!!

You guys are pretty lucky in Idaho I think. The Montana board is never used, the people are more secretive and cutthroat than anything I've experienced fishing in Idaho, and in general fishing and hunting are essentially taboo to talk about. I am to the point where the only person who knows where I fish is a piece of paper I write where I am going so they can look for my body if I don't come back. I don't check the site often, but I have a friend who is an active poster on your forums and shares what he can. I look at the Idaho stuff at times just to get a feel for what's happening in your neck of the woods and I do fish on the Snake a few times a year. So I guess I am a lurker, but really I get nothing of value because well I am just scouting without actually fishing.

I would suggest that you open your mind and not be so judgmental of others that have a point of view other than yours. You're not that special. Smile

For the last few years I have not posted much or visited this site much.
Due to a few things one being same water reports.
Most waters I take the time to go fish in Idaho now are farther away than most Utah's anglers are willing to drive for just a day trip.
More and more regular posters have plenty of experience and have the basics down for the waters usually posted on..
I think most lurkers here are Utah meat hunters not that its wrong to keep a fish but damn there is difference between having a meal and just harvesting to harvest.
Loose lips sink ships.
But ill drop a hint or bit of info here and there and a thanks every now and then.
And most forums have rules about the grammar police. Not that I have seen it here in the Idaho side but it's rampant on the Utah side...

Hey Mackayguy. Mackay Reservoir and the Big Lost (in former times before the land was bought up) is my fathers favorite fishing hole going back to the 1960's. Do you do much fishing in that area?

DeeCee...This is a bit off topic, but.....the land has always been owned, but more recently the landowners are tightening up on allowing people to cross their property to access the river. I've had to lock my gates and post no trespassing as well due to the lack of respect and destruction on my property. Obviously the reservoir is public access.

To answer your question.....yes I do fish it a lot. I live and work in Boise, but in the warmer months spend at least half my time in Mackay at my ranch, which is just below the dam at the reservoir. We've had this place for over 40 years and have seen a lot of change in the landowner's attitudes about people abusing the access privileges. I can tell you some interesting stories about people pulling their campers into my hay fields and setting up camp.....when confronted they tell me it's not my property and they have the right to be there. The few ruin it for the majority.

That is a shame there are a few idiots like that around, and they really wreck it for others getting respectful access. I certainly understand why most of the areas HAVE to be posted.

Beautiful area and great river. I love the Big Lost. I mostly fish the upper part in Copper Basin though.
