Rockport help ?
I need some help...I went to rockport to help my friend with some scouts over the weekend. We all went fishing and had alot of fun. But the problem I was having, all I could catch was dinky SMB. I was fishing from the shore. I'm not to savy in fishing for Bass and dont claim to be. Although I would love to learn how to get them. Are there decent size Bass in Rockport. If so do you have to have a toon, tube, or boat to catch the big ones? where do you typically find the big ones at? PM me if you want. Thanks for your help. I was using 4" senkos

When i was younger I caught nice bass but latly from the past 3 years it looks like they are all just dinky bass thats all really. Last year i took my toon but still dink bass. so im not so sure what happened they might be in the deep ends or just not so hungry after all of the cray fish that are in the lake wondering around.

Fly fishing season is just kicking off so let's make it a good season.
Have a happy fishing day.

Catch them during the spawn....and after...use Perch colors to get a strike. I watched a BIG bass chase a tiny perch last time I was there. They love rocky points, humps off the floor and areas with current.

Luckily those dinky bass will grow up.

No sarcasm, no PM's. DO you have any thoughts about the bass and what to use, and where to locate them. You might have a different perspective. I honestly am not trying to be sarcastic. I really do appreciate any help I can get!! I probably should be a better fisherman than I'am so I would love any advice! Thanks

I appreciate your optimism, but dinky bass will NOT grow up if there is a population problem. Many a body of water mismanaged is replete with big-headed, short-bodied runts due to mass proliferation and limited food chain.

I have no experience with this lake in particular, but wanted to point out that SMALL bass are not inherently YOUNG bass waiting to turn into lunkers. Conditions must be favorable in order for that desirable outcome to be realized...

EDIT: Here's a very simplistic link that has some pix and a basic explanation. It's actually a fairly common issue.

No I don't. About this time of year (Usually 2 weeks later) I stop being able to catch good bass from Rock.
It may be the heat, light, pressure, people keeping bass since April, I don't know. That's why no answer.
I suspect that is why no one answered.

I either go high for trout or low for cats this time of year.
The mid elevation lakes, (Rock, Jordonelle, DC,), I just don't catch much until fall.
